  • Nationals' Sean O'Sullivan: Inks MiLB deal with Washington

O'Sullivan signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Sunday. O'Sullivan will return stateside after opening the season with the Nexen Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization. Nexen granted O'Sullivan his release in May after the right-hander served up 14 runs over eight innings, but it appears the Nationals think he could still fortify the team's pitching depth at Triple-A Syracuse. O'Sullivan last appeared in the big leagues in 2016 with the Red Sox, making five appearances and turning in a 6.75 ERA.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Activated from disabled list, sent to Triple-A

O'Sullivan (knee) was activated off the disabled list Thursday, and outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports. O'Sullivan had been on the DL for just over a month after dealing with left knee tendinitis. He recently completed a rehab assignment with Pawtucket, but was roughed up pretty good, allowing six runs on six hits in three innings. The team decided to keep him with the Triple-A team, but O'Sullivan will likely come back to the majors before the end of the month.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Hit hard in rehab start

O'Sullivan allowed six runs on six hits in three innings during a rehab start at Triple-A Pawtucket. He struck out four and didn't walk a batter. O'Sullivan lasted just 53 pitches before getting yanked. The right-hander, who had a few starts in Boston when the Red Sox had some problems at the back end of the rotation, is expected to be assigned to Pawtucket when he's ready to come off the disabled list.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Will start rehab Thursday

O'Sullivan (knee) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket on Thursday, Ryan Hannable of WEEI reports. While his rehab seems to be progressing well, with the trades the Red Sox have made at the deadline, it seems O'Sullivan likely won't get a starting spot once he's back. Depending on how well he pitches from the bullpen, it will determine his value moving forward.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Lands on 15-day DL

O'Sullivan was placed on the 15-day DL on Saturday with left knee tendinitis, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports. This move conveniently opens up a roster spot for Brad Ziegler, who is expected to be activated Sunday. O'Sullivan has struggled in 21.1 innings with the big club this year, but the Red Sox have won in all four of his starts with the offense exploding for 39 runs in those four games. It's entirely possible O'Sullivan will return to a starting role once healthy, but his window to start may shut in a hurry as the Red Sox figure to be in pursuit of rotation help at the trade deadline.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Turns in serviceable outing in Friday start

O'Sullivan didn't factor into the decision versus the Rays on Friday, giving up four earned runs on seven hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out four. After 93 pitches over five innings and having seen a 4-2 lead evaporate, manager John Farrell didn't want to push his luck with the erratic O'Sullivan. The veteran righty's performance was serviceable, but he did give up a Brad Miller sacrifice fly and Evan Longoria RBI single in his final inning of work, allowing the Rays to erase a two-run deficit. It remains to be seen if O'Sullivan will hang on to his rotation spot following the All-Star break.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Will get another start

O'Sullivan will start Friday's game against the Rays, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports. It came down to O'Sullivan or Clay Buchholz, and O'Sullivan earned a second start after he carried a shutout into the sixth inning of Sunday's win over the Angels. An additional factor was that manager John Farrell liked the idea of having Buchholz available out of the bullpen a day earlier than O'Sullivan would be available. We're taking this one day at a time with O'Sullivan as the fourth starter. Presuming he pitches well Friday, he'll remain in the rotation following the All-Star break.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Picks up the win in spot start

O'Sullivan allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out two in Boston's win over the Angels on Sunday. The Red Sox were in tatters following Saturday's embarrassing 21-2 loss. Apart from Saturday's ignominy, Boston's starters have pitched poorly of late and the bullpen taxed. So it was the journeyman O'Sullivan, called up from Triple-A to make a spot start, given the responsibility of stabilizing the team, and he did just that. It was an effort that earned him the adulation of Fenway Park and most likely another start this coming Friday against the Rays. Beyond the top three in the rotation -- David Price, Rick Porcello and Steven Wright -- the Red Sox are looking for someone, anyone, to grab hold of the final two spots.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Contract purchased from Triple-A, will start Sunday

O'Sullivan's contract was purchased from Triple-A Pawtucket, MLB.com reports. He'll get the start Sunday against the Angels. The Red Sox have been able to get by with a four-man rotation of late due to scheduling quirks, but with the team in the midst of a stretch of six games in as many days, O'Sullivan was needed to make a spot start. The team could surely use O'Sullivan to eat some innings after starter Clay Buchholz and the bullpen were pummeled for 21 runs in Saturday's loss, but don't count on pretty numbers from the right-hander, who has surrendered 10 earned runs on 19 hits and two walks over 11.1 innings with the Red Sox this season.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Will start Sunday

O'Sullivan is scheduled to start Sunday's game against the Angels, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald reports. O'Sullivan, who's Triple-A start on Thursday was skipped in preparation for this move, made 11 starts for Triple-A Pawtucket this season and sparkled, posting a 6-2 record with a 2.79 ERA over 71 innings. He'll now have a chance to carry over his minor league production Sunday as he faces off against Matt Shoemaker and the Angels.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Candidate to start for Boston on Sunday

O'Sullivan's scheduled start for Triple-A Pawtucket was skipped on Thursday, Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports. The Red Sox have been getting by with four starters during their most recent turn through the rotation, but will need a fifth starter Sunday and it looks like skipping O'Sullivan's start Thursday makes him an option. He had a brief turn earlier this season for Boston and was eminently hittable in two starts, giving up 19 hits and 10 earned runs in 11.1 innings. Aaron Wilkerson is another option. After this turn through the rotation, scheduled days off and the looming All-Star break will allow Boston to get by without the need of a fifth starter until July 24.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket

O'Sullivan was outrighted to Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. After being DFA'd on Sunday and subsequently clearing waivers, O'Sullivan was outrighted to Boston's Triple-A affiliate Wednesday. O'Sullivan was unable to get into a rhythm on the mound in his two starts with Boston this season, giving up nine earned runs across 10.1 combined innings. He'll provide organizational depth as either a starter or reliever while at Pawtucket, but he carries little fantasy upside at this point.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Deisgnaed for assignment after Sunday's start

O'Sullivan was sent down to Triple-A Pawtucket after his start Sunday, Mass Live reports. This move was entirely expected. O'Sullivan, who gave up six runs (five earned) on five hits and two walks Sunday, was filling in for a couple of turns through the rotation. With Boston having two off days in the next eight days, they can get by with four starters and bide their time until Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) and/or Joe Kelly (shoulder) is ready for the rotation. Each of those injured pitchers are nearing the end of rehab stints.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Will start Sunday

O'Sullivan will make at least one more start Sunday, when he faces the Astros, the Providence Journal reports. O'Sullivan effectively replaced Henry Owens in the rotation when Owens proved incapable of consistently commanding his pitches. In his first start, O'Sullivan didn't walk a batter, but allowed a whopping 12 hits in six innings. The high volume of hits may be explained away by O'Sullivan pitching to contact after Boston presented him with an 11-0 lead. At any rate, he'll get at least one more start while the Red Sox have Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) toe the rubber for a fourth rehab start at Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Beats Athletics in spot start

O'Sullivan (1-0) allowed four runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts over six innings in a win Tuesday against the Athletics. O'Sullivan did all he had to do as a spot starter: eat up some innings and keep the team in the game. The Red Sox gave him 11 runs of support in the first five innings, so O'Sullivan threw strikes (61 of his 91 pitches) and pitched to contact and let his defense do the work. O'Sullivan will likely be returning to the minor leagues with Eduardo Rodriguez expected to return from the disabled list in time for the next turn in the rotation.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Spot start set for Tuesday

O'Sullivan is listed as the Red Sox's starter for Tuesday's game against Oakland in the official game notes, Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal reports. Eduardo Rodriguez is expected to come off the DL later this week, which figures to make O'Sullivan's stay with the big club a brief one. O'Sullivan has a 3.00 ERA and 0.88 WHIP backed by a 32:5 K:BB in five starts (33 innings) at Triple-A Pawtucket this season.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Tuesday's likely starter

O'Sullivan is the expected starter for Tuesday night's game against the Athletics, the Boston Globe reports. Manager John Farrell said "everything points to" the right-hander, who will be filling in for the demoted Henry Owens. This is considered a one-time only gig as Eduardo Rodriguez (knee), who pitched a third rehab start Sunday, is due back during this next turn through Boston's rotation. O'Sullivan has been pretty good in three starts at Triple-A Pawtucket, but his body of the work in MLB as a starter (6.07 ERA, .304 BAA) is not optimistic.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Called up to major leagues

O'Sullivan was called up by the Red Sox on Friday, Michael Silverman of the Boston Herald reports. He will provide some depth to the Boston bullpen, but O'Sullivan figures to head down next week to make room for Eduardo Rodriguez (knee), if he makes it that long. The 28-year-old O'Sullivan posted an ERA north of 6.00 with the Phillies the last two seasons, and he owns a 4.23 ERA and 1.36 WHIP in parts of eight seasons at the Triple-A level.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Reassigned to minor league camp

O'Sullivan was reassigned to minor league camp Saturday. O'Sullivan made 13 starts for the Phillies last season, going 1-6 with a 6.08 EAR across 71.0 total innings. He'll likely start out at Triple-A Pawtucket in 2016 in hopes of working his way into a call up later in the year.

  • Red Sox's Sean O'Sullivan: Signs minor league contract with Red Sox

O'Sullivan has signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports. O'Sullivan split his 2015 campaign between the Phillies and their Triple-A affiliate in Lehigh Valley. While he saw 13 starts for the Phillies, that was mostly due to a lack of depth in the rotation and injuries, and it seems highly likely he'll begin the season in the minors.
