    • Tim Melville: Heads to free agency
      By RotoWire Staff

Melville cleared waivers and elected to become a free agent Monday. Melville will test free agency rather than return to the Padres' minor-league system. The 28-year-old compiled a respectable 2.95 ERA across 76.1 innings at the Triple-A level last year, but struggled to a 11.12 ERA in 5.2 major-league frames. He'll likely settle for a minor-league deal.

    • Padres' Tim Melville: Summoned to big club
      By RotoWire Staff

Melville was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Monday. Melville will join the Padres after being claimed off waivers from the Twins last month. He compiled a healthy 2.95 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 76.1 Triple-A innings this season, though he struggled in his only major-league appearance, allowing five runs in 3.1 frames of work. Melville's worked mostly as a starter in the past, and it's safe to assume he'll primarily serve as a mop-up man out of the Padres' bullpen down the stretch.

    • Padres' Tim Melville: Picked up by Padres
      By RotoWire Staff

Melville was claimed off waivers by the Padres on Saturday. Now that he's a member of the Padres organization, Melville will likely provide organizational depth in the bullpen. The 27-year-old has had limited exposure to the majors over the course of his career, as he's pitched just 12.1 innings over four games in big leagues. In that time he's allowed 16 runs on 12 walks and 20 hits, six of which were home runs.

    • Twins' Tim Melville: DFA'd Tuesday
      By RotoWire Staff

Melville was designated for assignment Tuesday, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Melville was recalled from Triple-A Rochester on Monday to take the mound against the White Sox. He turned in a miserable outing (five runs over 3.1 innings) and will now be cast off the 40-man roster. Minor-league arm John Curtiss is expected to occupy the open spot on the roster.

    • Melivlle (0-1) allowed five runs on four hits and three walks across 3.1 innings to earn the loss Monday against the White Sox. Melville, who held his own through the first three innings of his season debut, struggled in the fourth, when he allowed a three-run home run to Yolmer Sanchez with one out. He was laboring at that point to the tune of 82 pitches -- partly due to a hefty 29 foul balls by the opposition -- and was removed in favor of the bullpen. Melville's line was inflated by the big hit, but this performance did not help his bid to make another spot start this Saturday.
