The Dodgers have traded for pitcher Rudy Owens, formerly of the Athletics, reports MLB.com. Last season, Owens posted an ERA of 4.33 with Triple-A Oklahoma and an 8-5 record. The left-hander finished the spring with an ERA of 7.94, giving up five earned runs and one home run with one strikeout.
The Athletics cut five pitchers on Sunday. RHP Arnold Leon was optioned to Triple-A. He allowed two hits in four shutout innings this spring, and manager Bob Melvin said the decision to send him down was a tough one. RHP Raul Alcantara, who hasn't played as he continues to recover from arm surgery, was optioned to Double-A. Three pitchers were reassigned to minor league camp: RHP Angel Castro (3.00 ERA in three spring innings) and LHPs Jim Fuller (3.38 ERA) and Rudy Owens (9.00 ERA).
