Torreyes was outrighted to Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. Torreyes has spent the bulk of the season at Rochester, with his .175/.219/.371 slash line not tempting any team to claim him off waivers. He's still just 26 and owns a respectable .281/.310/.375 career slash line in 614 big-league plate appearances, however, so there's a chance he pops up in a utility role at some point if his numbers improve.
Torreyes was reinstated from the restricted list and placed at High-A Ft. Myers on Tuesday. Torreyes had been on the restricted list for undisclosed reasons for over two weeks. He'll likely only spend a brief period of time in Ft. Myers, as he's spent most of his time at Triple-A or in the majors over the last four seasons. Gabriel Moya was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the 40-man roster.
Torreyes was placed on the restricted list for undisclosed reasons Saturday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. The 26-year-old had been on the temporary inactive list with Triple-A Toledo, but the move to the restricted list will free up a spot on the Twins' 40-man roster. Ryan Eades' contract was purchased in a corresponding move. It's unclear why Torreyes is away from the team, but there currently appears to be no timetable for his return.
Torreyes was optioned to Triple-A Rochester on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports. Torreyes will begin the season in the minors with Jorge Polanco (arm) expected to be ready for the start of the season.
Torreyes will travel with the Twins to Minneapolis for Opening Day in case Jorge Polanco isn't ready to play due to arm fatigue, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports. Torreyes isn't expected to be added to the 25-man roster unless Polanco is hurt, however. Torreyes is expected to begin the season at Triple-A
