  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Outrighted to Triple-A

The Mariners sent Milone outright to Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday. The 36-year-old lefty was DFA'd last week to make room for the arrival of Isaiah Campbell, and the veteran will remain in the Mariners' organization after clearing waivers. Milone was doing well in Seattle with a 2.00 ERA and 1.44 WHIP through nine innings. However, it's uncertain if he'll appear in the big leagues again this season now that he doesn't hold a spot on the 40-man roster.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Designated for assignment

Milone was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Thursday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Milone has fared pretty well in a couple of spot starts this year, posting a 2.00 ERA across nine innings, but he'll lose his place on the Mariners' roster to make way for the arrival of relief prospect Isaiah Campbell.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Receives no support in loss

Milone (0-1) allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits and four walks without recording a strikeout in 4.1 innings to take the loss Wednesday versus the Giants. Milone navigated a lot of traffic fairly well, but the Mariners' offense put up just seven hits in the 2-0 loss. The southpaw threw 81 pitches (49 strikes) in the start. Milone was filling in for Bryce Miller (finger) in the rotation. If Miller remains out after the All-Star break, Milone could draw another start.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Promoted ahead of start

The Mariners selected Milone's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday. Darren McCaughan was optioned to Tacoma to clear room on the 26-man active roster for Milone ahead of the veteran lefty's second start of the season with the big club Wednesday versus the Giants. Over 50.1 innings at Tacoma this season, Milone has pitched to a 4.47 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB. He'll look to parlay a strong showing Wednesday into a longer stay as the Mariners' No. 5 starter until Bryce Miller (finger) is ready to return from the 15-day injured list.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Draws starting nod for M's

The Mariners will call up Milone from Triple-A Tacoma to start Wednesday's game in San Francisco, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Milone will be joining the Mariners for the second time this season, as he previously made a spot start April 14 versus the Rockies before being designated for assignment shortly thereafter. He cleared waivers and has remained in the organization as a depth arm at Tacoma, where he's compiled a 4.47 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB over 50.1 innings. The veteran southpaw will step in as the Mariners' temporary No. 5 starter after Bryce Miller (finger) recently joined Marco Gonzales (forearm) on the injured list, but whether Milone sticks around beyond Wednesday will likely hinge on how he fares versus the Giants.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Outrighted to Triple-A

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Designed for assignment

Milone was designated for assignment by the Mariners on Saturday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. Milone was called up to make a spot start against the Rockies on Saturday after Marco Gonzales was placed on the paternity list, and he pitched well while allowing one run over 4.2 innings of work. With Gonzales expected back next week and a full Seattle rotation, there's no room for Milone on the roster. if he goes unclaimed, he will likely report back to Triple-A Tacoma.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Executes in season debut

Milone did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing one run on three hits and two walks over 4.2 innings against the Rockies. He struck out three. Milone delivered a solid outing after getting called up from Triple-A Tacoma the day before. The 36-year old was yanked after throwing just 82 pitches, but this was most likely an effort by Seattle's staff to ease him back into the big leagues. It remains to be seen what exactly the left-hander's role will be within the Mariners' pitching staff as the season continues.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Making spot start Friday

The Mariners selected Milone's contract from Triple-A Tacoma on Friday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. He'll make a spot start Friday at home against the Rockies, filling in for Marco Gonzales (paternity). Milone tossed five scoreless frames in his lone start for Tacoma this season and holds a career 4.60 ERA over parts of 12 major-league seasons. Chances are, he'll be designated for assignment after Friday's outing.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Rejoins Seattle

Milone signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners on Thursday, Paul Braverman, Director of Media Relations and Baseball Information for the Tacoma Rainiers reports. Milone spent the majority of the 2022 season with Triple-A Tacoma and maintained a 2.68 ERA with a 1.02 WHIP across 40.1 innings. He appeared as a reliever for short stints in Seattle and will likely serve as organizational depth once again in 2023.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Back in action at Triple-A

Milone (neck) returned to action for Triple-A Tacoma on Thursday and allowed four earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two over 1.2 innings. Seattle released Milone on Aug. 4 while he on the injured list with a cervical muscle strain, but he re-signed with the organization on a minor-league deal two weeks later. He still needed some additional time to move past the injury before he was cleared to pitch for the Mariners' top affiliate last week. Milone was deployed as a starter Thursday and looks like he'll continue to get stretched out as a member of Tacoma's rotation.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Re-signs with Seattle

Milone (neck) re-signed Aug. 19 with the Mariners on a minor-league contract. Before he was cut loose by the Mariners on Aug. 9, Milone was on Seattle's injured list with a cervical muscle strain. Given that he hasn't appeared for Triple-A Tacoma since re-signing with Seattle, Milone is presumably still recovering from the injury. Prior to being released earlier this month, the veteran lefty generated a 5.40 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 16.2 innings with the big club.

  • Tommy Milone: Cut by Seattle

The Mariners released Milone (neck) on Thursday. With the Mariners needing to clear room on the 40-man roster in the aftermath of last week's trade deadline, Milone became a casualty. The Mariners either viewed Milone as an inessential left-handed arm in the bullpen or weren't confident that he would make an expedient return from the cervical muscle strain that resulted in him landing on the injured list July 30. Milone covered 16.2 innings out of the Seattle bullpen this season and posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.20 WHIP.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: To 15-day IL

Milone was placed on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a cervical muscle strain, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. He gave up four earned runs in one inning Friday and perhaps the neck issue was bothering him or was sustained during that appearance. Brennan Bernardino was brought up from Triple-A to take Milone's place in the bullpen.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Works in long relief Sunday

Milone logged 2.1 innings out of the bullpen in a loss to the Astros on Sunday, allowing two earned runs on a hit and three walks while recording a strikeout. The veteran left-hander had recently been moved back to the bullpen, and Sunday's uneven performance may have partly been the result of Milone last having pitched July 13. The 35-year-old is likely to continue primarily seeing multi-inning relief assignments, which could certainly set him up to qualify for the occasional decision or hold.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Headed back to bullpen

Milone is expected to work out of the bullpen to begin the Mariners' second-half schedule, as Seattle intends to call up George Kirby from Triple-A Tacoma to take the hill when a fifth starter is first needed Tuesday against the Rangers, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports. The veteran lefty had already made his last appearance before the All-Star break out of the bullpen, though he had been deployed as the primary pitcher behind an opener in a July 13 doubleheader matchup with the Nationals. Milone will now serve in a more traditional relief role following the break, with most of his opportunities likely to come in mop-up situations.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Working behind opener

Milone will pitch behind opener Erik Swanson during the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Nationals, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Milone was initially listed as Seattle's scheduled starter for Wednesday's nightcap, but he'll instead serve as a bulk reliever. The southpaw has posted a 3.60 ERA and 0.70 WHIP in 10 innings over four appearances for the Mariners this year.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Getting start in doubleheader game

The Mariners list Milone as their scheduled starting pitcher for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Nationals. Milone might have been a candidate to work behind an opener Wednesday, but with Tuesday's postponement creating a doubleheader, the Mariners seem content to deploy the lefty as a traditional starter. The 35-year-old southpaw hasn't covered more than four frames in any of his four appearances for Seattle this season, but he should be fairly stretched out after tossing six shutout innings in his final outing at Triple-A Tacoma on June 14 prior to joining the big club.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Should pitch Wednesday

Milone is expected to start or follow an opener Wednesday against the Nationals, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports. The veteran left-hander has totaled 10 frames over four appearances since having his contract selected by Seattle in mid-June, so he's unlikely to have a chance at a win if he starts Wednesday's contest. Milone has a 3.60 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and 4:0 K:BB this season.

  • Mariners' Tommy Milone: Multi-inning relief stint Wednesday

Milone fired two scoreless innings during a win over the Athletics on Wednesday, allowing one hit. Milone mopped up in the Mariners' blowout win, getting his six outs on 27 pitches. The veteran southpaw has been highly effective over two appearances with the big-league club after fashioning a 1.13 ERA and 0.84 WHIP in seven starts with Triple-A Tacoma, as he's allowed just one run on three hits over six innings in his first pair of outings in Seattle.
