Swihart (oblique) began his rehab assignment Wednesday and went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored for High-A Visalia. It was previously reported that Swihart's rehab would begin Thursday, but manager Torey Lovullo erred when providing that update, per Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. Swihart served as the designated hitter for the Rawhide. The Diamondbacks have not provided a certain number of plate appearances they would like Swihart to receive before activating him off the injured list.
Swihart (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment Thursday with High-A Visalia, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. Swihart landed on the injured list June 1 and could get a week's worth of plate appearances before Arizona considers activating him.
Swihart was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a strained right oblique. It didn't seem like things could get much worse for Swihart after his opening month, but they did; he hit .154/.200/.327 with 22 strikeouts in May (52 at-bats) and is now out indefinitely with this oblique strain. It's uncertain if Swihart will have a roster spot waiting for him once he's healthy. Kevin Cron was recalled in a corresponding move.
Swihart started in left field and went 0-for-4 in Sunday's 6-2 win over San Francisco. Swihart filled in for the injured David Peralta (shoulder) against right-hander Shaun Anderson after Tim Locastro manned left field against two lefties in the first two games of the series. It looks like a platoon situation may be forming while Peralta is on the injured list, with Swihart against right-handers and Locastro against lefties.
Swihart entered Friday's game off the bench and went 0-for-2 with a run scored in an 18-2 win over the Giants. Swihart had been the regular fill-in for David Peralta, who was dealing with a shoulder injury over the past week. After the Diamondbacks placed Peralta on the injured list Friday, they called up outfielder Tim Locastro, who replaced Peralta in left field Friday against left-hander Drew Pomeranz. The decision to start Locastro instead of the switch-hitting Swihart was likely borne out of Swihart's career .499 OPS against southpaws.
