      Cedeno was placed on the 10-day injured list with left wrist inflammation Wednesday. The same injury prevented Cedeno from making his season debut until May 11. He threw two scoreless innings but had a 3.50 WHIP in five appearances before landing back on the injured list. Rowan Wick was recalled to take his place in the bullpen.

      Cedeno (wrist) was activated from the injured list Saturday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Cedeno has yet to pitch in a big-league game for the Cubs because of his injury, but he is ready to go after making 10 appearances in the minors. Cedeno will pitch out of the bullpen and figures to mainly work situationally when manager Joe Maddon wants to bring in a southpaw to face an opposing left-handed hitter or two.

      Cedeno (wrist) will begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Double-A Tennessee on Thursday, Mark Gonzales of the Chicago Tribune reports. Cedeno has been nursing a left wrist injury since early March but is finally ready to get back into game action. While he's seemingly inching closer to a return, the number of rehab appearances Cedeno will need to make before being cleared to join the Cubs has yet to be determined.

      Cedeno (wrist) will pitch in an extended spring training game in Arizona on Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. President of baseball operations Theo Epstein said at the start of the week that Cedeno was close to beginning a rehab assignment, but for now he remains at extended spring training. The 32-year-old has been nursing the left wrist injury since early March, but he appears to be nearing his return given he has resumed facing live hitters.
