Garcia is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Cubs. The lefty-hitting Garcia's absence from the lineup for a third straight game comes as little surprise with a southpaw (Jose Quintana) on the bump for Chicago, but his playing time against right-handed pitching could now be in jeopardy, too. San Diego recalled its top middle-infield prospect, Luis Urias, from Triple-A El Paso on Saturday and is expected to install him as the everyday second baseman. Urias' arrival likely means that Garcia and Ian Kinsler will transition into bench roles after competing with one another for time at the keystone for much of the campaign.
Garcia is sitting for the second straight game Friday against the Cubs. Garcia sits against a second straight lefty (Jon Lester). There's a good chance he sits again in favor of Ian Kinsler on Saturday, with yet another southpaw (Jose Quintana) on the mound for the Cubs.
Garcia is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Marlins. The Padres seem to have settled on a platoon situation at second base between Garcia and Ian Kinsler. The latter will pick up the start in the series finale with a southpaw (Caleb Smith) on the bump for the opposition, but the lefty-hitting Garcia has seen most of the work at the position lately. He'll take a seat after starting in three of the past four contests.
Garcia is not in the lineup Tuesday against Miami. Garcia appears to be moving ahead of Ian Kinsler on the depth chart at second base, as he'd started four out of five games prior to Tuesday's contest. Kinsler starts on this occasion, but it would make sense to see Garcia in the lineup more often going forward, as his .261/.346/.400 season line easily outpaces Kinsler's .217/.279/.367.
Garcia will start at second base and bat eighth Sunday against the Braves. Garcia will enter the lineup for the fourth time in five games and may have overtaken Ian Kinsler as the Padres' primary second baseman. The two veterans may merely be keeping the seat warm at the keystone for top prospect Luis Urias, who should receive a call back to the big leagues from Triple-A El Paso at some point later this summer.
