Pimentel was suspended 56 games for a positive test of Stanozolol, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports. Pimental only appeared in 14 games for Houston's rookie-league team in 2017, posting a 4.66 ERA and a 21:6 K:BB over 19.1 innings out of the bullpen. He will miss over one-third of the 2018 campaign due to this failed test.
Pimentel signed a minor league contract with the Padres on Wednesday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports. Pimentel had a largely successful campaign at Triple-A last season, working to a 2.95 ERA with 118 strikeouts in 143.1 innings. He's worked as both a starter and reliever thus far in his career and will provide depth in both areas with his new club.

According to Baseball America, the Cubs signed outfielder Casper Wells and pitcher Carlos Pimentel to minor league deals. Wells played for the Phillies, White Sox and Athletics in 2013, hitting .126 in 95 at-bats. Pimentel spent most of the 2013 season with the Rangers' Double-A affiliate in Frisco, but he finished at Triple-A Round Rock, posting a 1.59 ERA in six relief appearances.
