Mejias-Brean was outrighted to Triple-A El Paso on Monday. Mejias-Brean saw limited time with the big-league club in 2019, hitting .233 with two homers and five RBI over 14 games. The Padres have cleared a spot on the 40-man roster by outrighting the Arizona product to the minors.
Mejias-Brean went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBI and a walk in Sunday's 6-4 win over Arizona. Mejias-Brean took Yoan Lopez deep for a two-run, walkoff homer in the bottom of the 10th inning. It was the second homer of his MLB career, and four of his first six hits have gone for extra bases.
Mejias-Brean got the start at shortstop Wednesday, going 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. It was the 28-year-old's first big-league homer. Mejias-Brean is slashing .231/.286/.538 through seven games since his promotion, and his playing time will likely remain sporadic down the stretch.
Mejias-Brean is starting at first base and batting sixth in Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Mejias-Brean was called up to the Padres on Sept. 3 and has logged two at-bats thus far as a pinch hitter. He'll start for the first time as a major leaguer Wednesday while Eric Hosmer gets a breather.
Mejias-Brean had his contract selected from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. Mejias-Brean is on track to make his major-league debut after being granted a September callup. He put together an impressive season at the dish for El Paso, slashing .316/.371/.455 with 11 homers, 66 RBI and four stolen bases over 117 games.
