Ryan was optioned to Triple-A Iowa on Monday. Ryan had his contract selected by the Cubs on Sunday and didn't make an appearance during his lone game on the big-league roster. Adbert Alzolay (finger) was reinstated from the injured list in a corresponding move.
The Cubs selected Ryan's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. Chicago cleared room for Ryan on the 40-man roster by designating Robert Stock for assignment. After being booted from the roster in May when he struggled in his first three appearances with the Cubs, Ryan righted the ship during his time at Iowa. Over 13 relief outings at Triple-A, Ryan posted a 1.93 ERA and 0.82 WHIP across 18.2 innings.
Ryan cleared waivers Tuesday and will join Triple-A Iowa, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports. The lefty appeared in just three games for the Cubs, allowing one earned run in 2.2 innings pitched. Ryan was a very effective reliever in 2019 and may return to the big-league roster at some point if a spot opens up.
Ryan was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Friday, Maddie Lee of NBC Sports Chicago reports. The 29-year-old was promoted Tuesday after a brief stint in the minors, and he lost his spot on the 40-man roster after giving up one run on two hits and a walk while not recording an out Wednesday. Ryan could remain in the organization if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
The Cubs recalled Ryan from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Maddie Lee of NBC Sports Chicago reports. Ryan was optioned to the minors just three days ago, but the Cubs were able to add him back to the big-league roster sooner than usual since Dan Winkler (triceps) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. The 29-year-old Ryan will provide the Cubs with another lefty option out of the bullpen.
