Riddle was sent to Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. Riddle is batting just .156 through 15 games to begin 2019, so the Marlins will give him some at-bats at a lower level. Miami purchased the contract of Isaac Galloway and recalled Jarlin Garcia from Triple-A in corresponding moves.
Riddle remains on the bench Friday against the Phillies, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports. Riddle and Miguel Rojas appeared to be in a strict platoon early in the season, with Riddle starting against every righty and Rojas getting the nod against every lefty through the first 11 games of the season. Since then, it's been Rojas in the lineup against three straight righties, including Jake Arrieta on Friday.
Riddle is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Reds, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. Riddle has regularly started at shortstop against right-handed pitchers this season, so his absence from the lineup is somewhat surprising with Sonny Gray on the bump for Cincinnati. It's possible Riddle's hold on the top job has loosened in light of his 4-for-23 start to the season.
Riddle is not in the lineup Wednesday against the Reds. Riddle is just 4-for-23 with nine strikeouts through 10 games this season, so he'll find a seat on the bench Wednesday despite having the platoon advantage against righty starter Tyler Mahle. Miguel Rojas will start at shortstop and hit second in his place.
Riddle is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Braves, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports. Riddle returns to the bench as left-hander Sean Newcomb receives the start for Atlanta. Miguel Rojas will lead off and start at shortstop in his absence.
