Gustave (elbow) was outrighted off the Astros' 40-man roster Wednesday. Gustave missed the entire 2018 campaign recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent in June of 2017. Prior to suffering the injury, the right-hander posted a combined 3.98 ERA and 18:11 K:BB across 20.1 innings with the Astros in 2016 and 2017.
Gustave (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Saturday. Gustave, who had Tommy John surgery last June, had been on the 10-day DL since late March. Outfielder Myles Straw had his contract purchased from Triple-A Fresno, prompting the move.
The Astros placed Gustave (elbow) on the 10-day disabled list Thursday, MLB.com reports. Gustave is just past the nine-month mark in his recovery from Tommy John surgery, and given the year-plus healing timetable typically associated with the procedure, he'll likely shift to the 60-day DL at some point when the Astros need to clear up a roster spot. The right-hander is close to resuming mound work and could be ready to begin a rehab assignment at some point during the summer.
Gustave (elbow) will have a limited workout plan with his throwing in spring training as he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic Houston reports. Gustave, who went under the knife last June, is hopeful to resume mound work by the time camp draws to a close. He'll likely remain at extended spring training for several weeks beyond that in order for the Astros to monitor his recovery before he embarks on a lengthy rehab assignment with multiple affiliates. Don't count on the right-hander, who has made 20 appearances in the big leagues over the last two seasons, to resurface with the Astros until the second half of the campaign.
Gustave underwent Tommy John surgery on his right elbow Wednesday and has been ruled out for the season, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports. Given the nature of the procedure, Gustave will likely still be rehabbing the injury by the time spring training arrives and may not be back to full strength until the middle of the 2018 season or later. The reliever made six appearances with the Astros in April before being shut down with a forearm strain and was moved to the 60-day disabled list last week.
