Chang was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Chang spent just under three weeks in the minors, and he slashed .310/.396/.524 with two home runs, six RBI and six runs across 11 games. He's starting at first base in Wednesday's game against the Astros and batting eighth.
Chang went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBI and two runs scored Thursday against the Orioles. Chang went hitless in his first two at-bats, but he began his production with a two-RBI single in the sixth inning. Two frames later, he delivered a two-run home run for his second long ball of the season. This was also Chang's first multi-hit game since April 18. Chang has struggled with the bat considerably through 101 plate appearances, as he's hit only .179/.218/.305 on the campaign.
Chang went 1-for-3 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 10-4 win over the Orioles. The promotion of Bobby Bradley earlier in the day may have spurred Chang to launch his first homer of the year, as he took Adam Plutko deep in the third inning. It could be too little too late for him to maintain a consistent role at first base. Chang's .177 batting average and .493 OPS through 35 games.
Chang went 1-for-5 with a stolen base in Thursday's 5-2 win over Detroit. Chang hasn't seen much playing time lately -- he's played in only 12 games in May. The infielder is slashing a meager .149/.183/.209 with no home runs, six RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base through 71 plate appearances. He started at shortstop Thursday in place of Amed Rosario (hand). With another utilityman in Owen Miller on the big-league roster, Chang's path to playing time has gotten a bit more difficult.
Chang is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the White Sox. Chang had started at first base in each of Cleveland's last three games, but two of those starts came against left-handed pitchers. He'll take a seat Sunday with a righty (Lucas Giolito) on the hill for Chicago, allowing Jake Bauers to pick up a turn at first base. Chang looks like he'll remain in a short-side platoon role for the foreseeable future.
