Guerra is out of the lineup versus the Giants on Wednesday. Guerra will remain on the pine for a second straight game as Freddy Galvis gets the nod at shortstop. Since being promoted from the minors last week, Guerra has gone 1-for-7 with a walk and three strikeouts across three starts.
Guerra is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Giants. Guerra will retreat to the bench after starting the past three games. While the 22-year-old went just 1-for-7 with a trio of strikeouts in those appearances, the Padres seem committed to giving him opportunities down the stretch. Freddy Galvis will slide to shortstop in this one, with Jose Pirela starting at the keystone.
Guerra went 0-for-2 with a strikeout in Monday's loss to the Giants. Guerra was making his third consecutive start at shortstop. The 22-year-old is 1-for-9 with five strikeouts so far in the majors, but the rebuilding Padres seem intent to get a look at him over the final few weeks of the season. Guerra's at-bats will likely continue to come primarily at the expense of Cory Spangenberg and Jose Pirela, with Freddy Galvis shifted over to second base.
Guerra was recalled from Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday. Guerra will join the Padres for the final few weeks of the season after Triple-A El Paso was eliminated from the Pacific Coast League playoffs over the weekend. The 22-year-old hit .223/.269/.398 with 13 homers for the Chihuahuas this season, so he doesn't figure to serve as anything more than infield depth for the big club.
Guerra was returned to Triple-A El Paso on Monday. Guerra spent some time in the big leagues as the Padres' 26th man for the series in Mexico. With the team returning stateside, he'll head back to the minors. He went hitless in two pinch-hit appearances and will look to improve his .244 batting average with the Chihuahuas.
