    • Abreu was optioned to the Yankees' alternate training site Saturday. Abreu hasn't seen much action out of the Yankees' bullpen this season as he struggled during two appearances. He'll presumably get more consistent work at alternate camp and could return to the majors in a low-leverage capacity later in the season. Gleyber Torres (hamstring) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

    • The Yankees recalled Abreu from their taxi squad to serve as their 29th man for Wednesday's doubleheader with the Braves. Abreu's lone appearance with the big club came back on Aug. 8, when he was also serving as the 29th man for a twin bill with the Rays. He'll give the Yankees some length out of the bullpen, but don't expect him to be used Wednesday outside of a mop-up situation.

    • Abreu was appointed as the Yankees' 29th man for Saturday's doubleheader. Abreu was on the taxi squad for the weekend series, and he'll step in to fill a bullpen role for the twin bill Saturday after Nick Tropeano was designated for assignment. If Abreu makes a relief appearance, it will be his major-league debut. While he won't be on the active roster past Saturday for the time being, the right-hander could join the bullpen on a more regular basis at some point this year.
