Arauz went 3-for-4 with a walk, a home run and three RBI in Sunday's 9-1 win over the Braves. The 22-year-old waited until the final plate appearance of his debut season to hit his first career homer. He ends the campaign with a .250/.325/.319 slash line in 80 plate appearances. A Rule 5 pick last December, Arauz figures to head back to the minors next season to continue his development now that the Red Sox have secured his services long term.
Arauz drew the start at second base and went 2-for-3 with a run scored in Tuesday's 8-3 win over Baltimore. Arauz made his second straight start and has appeared in three consecutive games. Christian Arroyo is dealing with a back injury, so this an opportunity for the 22-year-old to see regular at-bats. After a promising start this season, Arauz has been overmatched during the current month, going 3-for-20 with 10 strikeouts since the start of September.
Arauz will fill in at shortstop in Sunday's series finale against the Yankees, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports. Arauz fills in for the resting Xander Bogaerts on Sunday. He entered Saturday's game for second baseman Christian Arroyo, who left with back spasms and is not starting Sunday. If there's a need at second base for a few days, Arauz and Tzu-Wei Lin will share the job.
Arauz remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Marlins, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports. Arauz has started only once in 10 games for Boston, with the arrival of Christian Arroyo having seemingly made the Rule 5 pickup an afterthought for manager Ron Roenicke. To be fair, Arauz hasn't really provided the skipper with a compelling reason to play him. Over his 59 plate appearances this season, Arauz has slashed .222/.288/.259.
Arauz went 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI in Monday's loss to the Yankees. Arauz doubled home a run in the top of the ninth inning to make it a three-run game, but the Red Sox were unable to creep any closer. Following Monday's performance, the 22-year-old is hitting .303 with two doubles and five RBI over 11 contests.
