Rivero's contract was selected by the Royals on Friday.
The Royals obviously like Rivero's defense at catcher, but he isn't very appealing in dynasty leagues. He hit .212/.270/.278 in 91 games at High-A in 2019 and should open the year at Double-A.
Rivero will be a part of the Royals' 60-man player pool this season, Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports.
Rivero is one of six catchers who were invited to the Royals' summer camp, and he is the least prominent of the bunch. He has never been a league-average hitter above rookie ball and hit .212 in 91 games at High-A last year.
