Drew Romo spent most of 2023 at Double-A Hartford and had a .254/.313/.440 slash line with 13 home runs and six steals in 91 contests before joining Triple-A Albuquerque late in the year. The 22-year-old is Colorado's top catching prospect, and he should have a decent chance of making his MLB debut in 2024. Elias Diaz is entering the final year of his contract, and the Rockies may want to get a look at Romo in the majors before making any decisions for 2025.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Reassigned to minor-league camp

    Romo was reassigned Tuesday to the minor-league side of Rockies camp. Romo, the 35th overall pick in the 2020 MLB Draft out of a high school in Texas, batted just .254/.321/.372 with five home runs over 102 games last season at High-A Spokane. He is only 21 years old and there's a lot to like in his long-term fantasy outlook as a catcher with good speed.

  • Rockies' Drew Romo: Hot start in Spokane

    Romo is hitting .347/.390/.514 with two home runs, 14 RBI and 14 runs scored across 82 plate appearances with High-A Spokane to begin the 2022 season. Romo's primary draw as a prospect is his defensive ability. His upside with the bat has been less clear, with particular concern about his hit tool. However, he's struck out at just a 15.9 percent clip to begin the season at Spokane, and he maintained a similar mark with Single-A Fresno last year. Romo will get more of a test once he advances to the upper levels of the minors, but his .401 wOBA and 154 wRC+ are positive indicators for the time being.
