    • Buttrey (1-3) was charged with three runs on two hits and a walk over one-third of an inning in Friday's loss to the Rockies. Buttrey got Matt Kemp to fly out to start his appearance, but he followed that with a solo home run by Ryan McMahon. Buttrey then allowed a double to Josh Fuentes and walked Daniel Murphy. Jose Quijada relieved Buttrey and the former gave up a two-out grand slam to Charlie Blackmon to complete the implosion by the Angels' bullpen. The poor outing inflated Buttrey's ERA to 6.04 with a 1.43 WHIP in 22.1 innings this year. The right-hander has five saves, but he's also blown four save chances. Felix Pena pitched a clean eighth inning prior to Buttrey's meltdown -- it might be Pena getting the nod for the Angels' next save chance.

    • Buttrey struck out one and nailed down the save Saturday against the Astros after tossing a scoreless inning in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. Buttrey bounced back after a woeful performance Friday, when he was unable to get the job done despite holding a three-run lead. Buttrey has blown three saves already this season and, while Saturday's performance might have bought him a bit more time as the Angels' closer, his role might be in jeopardy if he continues to be as inconsistent as he's been all season long.

    • Buttrey failed to earn the save against the Astros on Friday, allowing three runs on three hits while recording one out. Buttrey entered the ninth inning in a save situation and was pulled after giving up two runs and the Angels still leading by one. Unfortunately, his replacement Matt Andriese allowed Buttrey's third baserunner to score. Buttrey may have narrowly escaped a blown save, but his job could be in jeopardy due to his recent ninth inning struggles. On the season, the right-hander has four saves to go with a 5.68 ERA and 1.47 WHIP.

    • Buttrey (1-2) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against the Padres. He allowed three runs on three hits and struck out one batter in two-thirds of an inning. Buttrey was coming off back-to-back scoreless outings, but he has now allowed runs in four of his last six appearances. The right-hander has a 4.63 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 1.5 HR/9 in his last 10 outings, but he should still be considered a top option for saves in Anaheim, if mostly by default.

    • Buttrey picked up his fourth save of the season Friday against the Mariners. He allowed one run on two hits and a walk across 1.1 innings. Buttrey didn't strike out a single batter and struggled with his control after tossing just six of his 13 pitches for strikes, but the still got the job done. Buttrey has allowed runs in each of his last three appearances off the bullpen but has converted his last four save chances, so he seems to have the closer role locked down for the foreseeable future.
