    • Oviedo was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Saturday. Oviedo struggled in his latest outing, lasting just two innings in his start Friday against the Padres while giving up three runs, walking five batters and hitting another. He now owns a 5.74 ERA through three starts and one relief appearance. Junior Fernandez was recalled in a corresponding move.

    • Oviedo (0-2) took the loss Friday, allowing two runs on two hits and five walks over two innings as the Cardinals fell 5-4 to the Padres. Making his fourth start, Oviedo struggled with his control, loading the bases with no outs in the third inning. He's struggled as a spot starter for St. Louis and isn't a viable fantasy option until he can find the plate with more consistency.

    • The Cardinals list Oviedo as their probable starter for Friday's game against the Padres. Unless he's needed in relief for the final two games of St. Louis' ongoing series with the Brewers, Oviedo will slot into the rotation this weekend as a replacement for Carlos Martinez (ankle), who was moved to the 10-day injured list Tuesday. Oviedo performed respectably in his three outings (two starts) with St. Louis earlier this season, but he was bashed in his most recent appearance at Triple-A Memphis on Sunday, surrendering five earned runs over 2.2 innings.

    • Oviedo was optioned to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday. Oviedo started the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets and was charged with the loss after he gave up four runs on five hits and no walks while striking out two in four innings. He'll now attempt to sort things out in the minors but could return to the Cardinals as a spot starter at some point. Outfielder Lane Thomas was recalled in a corresponding move.

    • Oviedo (0-1) was tagged with the loss in Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets after allowing four runs on five hits while fanning two across four innings. Oviedo gave up two long balls -- a two-run shot to Tomas Nido in the second inning and a solo shot to Jonathan Villar in the fourth -- and that was enough to saddle him with his first loss of the campaign. Oviedo has only made three appearances this season but has given up at least three runs in each of his last two outings. The sample size is small, but Oviedo has a 4.61 ERA after allowing seven runs across his 13.2 innings in 2021.
