Perez was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Perez rejoined the big club Sept. 12 and wound up tossing 5.1 scoreless frames across three appearances. Despite his recent success, he'll return to Columbus with Shane Bieber (shoulder) and Amed Rosario (COVID-19 protocols) both being activated Friday.
Perez allowed two hits and struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings in Game 2 of Monday's doubleheader versus Kansas City. The southpaw ended up getting more outs than any of Cleveland's five other pitchers in the contest. Perez has appeared in three games this year, allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 5.2 innings. He's expected to continue in a low-leverage role going forward.
Perez was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Saturday. He appeared in Sunday's 11-1 loss to Milwaukee, allowing a hit and striking out one in two scoreless innings. Perez previously made one appearance for Cleveland in August. The 24-year-old will look to stay around with the big club longer this time, although he'll likely be limited to a multi-inning relief role. Daniel Johnson was sent down in a corresponding move.
