  • Adams went 0-for-3 with two walks, one run and one RBI in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Marlins. Though Adams appeared to supplant Tres Barrera as Washington's top catcher in the second half of August, the 25-year-old's stay atop the depth chart proved short lived, as Keibert Ruiz has taken over as the team's preferred backstop since his Aug. 30 promotion. Adams made what was just his second start in the Nationals' last eight games Wednesday, and he demonstrated the sort of plate discipline that made him an intriguing prospect coming up through the Toronto system. While he likely won't see his opportunities behind the plate pick up over the final two and a half weeks of the season, Adams has been working out at first base of late and could end up getting a look in a short-side platoon role behind the lefty-hitting Josh Bell, according to Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com.

  • Adams is not in the lineup Sunday against the Mets, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. Adams started the past two games and has a 1.032 OPS through 18 games for Washington since being acquired from Toronto, but his playing time is now in jeopardy with top prospect Keibert Ruiz being promoted for his debut Monday. Ruiz figures to take over as the Nationals' primary catcher, though Adams has likely done enough to stick around as the backup option.

  • Adams is not in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Brewers, Matt Weyrich of NBC Sports Washington reports. The 25-year-old takes a seat after going 6-for-11 with two doubles, a home run and four RBI in his last three games. Tres Barrera is catching and batting seventh Saturday.

  • Adams went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run, three runs scored and three RBI in Tuesday's 12-6 win over the Blue Jays. Facing the organization that traded him, Adams put together a classic revenge game, launching a solo shot off Trent Thornton in the fourth inning before adding a two-run double in the eighth. It was by far the 25-year-old's best performance in the majors so far, and since joining the Nats at the end of July, Adams is slashing a surprising .304/.385/.609 through 11 contests with two homers and six RBI.
