  • Rodriguez (lat) underwent capsule repair surgery on his right shoulder Monday and is expected to miss most of the 2022 season, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports. Rodriguez missed the final seven weeks of the 2021 campaign with a right lat strain, and the shoulder procedure will now cost him the majority of 2022. The 23-year-old made his big-league debut for the Angels in 2021 and posted a 3.64 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 29:15 K:BB across 29.2 innings.

  • General manager Perry Minasian said Monday that Rodriguez (lat) might not be ready for spring training in 2022, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Rodriguez suffered a right lat strain in mid-August, and his recovery hasn't progressed as quickly as the team had hoped. The right-hander got his first taste of major-league action in 2021 and recorded a 3.64 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 29.2 innings across 15 appearances (two starts) prior to his injury.

  • Rodriguez (lat) has been ruled out for the season, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports. Rodriguez landed on the 7-day minor-league injured list with a lat strain Aug. 14, and he wasn't expected to have enough time to return as a starter. Manager Joe Maddon said Saturday that the right-hander won't return in any capacity in 2021. Rodriguez made 15 appearances (two starts) in the majors this year and generated a 3.64 ERA and 1.45 WHIP in 29.2 innings.

  • Rodriguez (lat) has yet to resume throwing and isn't expected to have enough time to ramp up as a starter if he returns, per MLB.com. Rodriguez was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A on Aug. 14 and is considered week-to-week. The right-hander worked primarily as a reliever during his time with the Angels this season but did log two starts in 15 appearances. Manager Joe Maddon said in April that Rodriguez has what it takes to become "a front-line starter," but the rookie appears unlikely to work in that capacity again this season, if he is able to return at all.

  • Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports. Rodriguez served as the 27th man Tuesday and made his second major-league start in the first game of the doubleheader against the Blue Jays. He allowed a run on six hits and two walks while striking out two in four innings but didn't factor into the decision. He'll return to the minors but is a strong candidate to rejoin the Angels at some point following his strong start.
