    • Pardinho underwent Tommy John surgery and will miss the 2020 season, Ben Badler of Baseball America reports. Pardinho was promoted from rookie ball to Low-A in 2019 and delivered a 2.41 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 30:13 K:BB over 33.2 innings (seven starts), but he won't be able to pitch this season. The 19-year-old will have to focus on his recovery and look to come back in 2021.

    • Pardinho allowed three hits and a walk over five scoreless innings while striking out four for Low-A Lansing on Sunday. The 18-year-old right-hander got a late start to the season due to elbow soreness, but after he made one appearance in the Gulf Coast League, the Jays gave him an aggressive promotion to the Midwest League and he's responded by posting a 1.93 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 13:4 K:BB through his first 14 innings of full-season ball. Pardinho's short stature does create some bullpen concerns in the long run, but he's got plenty of time to prove he can handle the rigors of a rotation spot as he makes his way up the ladder.

    • Pardinho gave up a hit and three walks over four scoreless innings while striking out five for the GCL Blue Jays on Wednesday. The 18-year-old Brazilian had the beginning of his season delayed due to mild elbow soreness, but Pardinho looked very good in his 2019 debut. The Jays' No. 8 fantasy prospect posted strong numbers in the Appy League last year (2.88 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 64:16 K:BB through 50 IP), so this assignment to the Gulf Coast League could be a brief one before he gets moved up to face tougher competition. Given his relatively small frame (he's currently listed at 5-foot-10, 155 pounds), low 90s fastball and promising curveball -- not to mention the organization he pitches for -- Marcus Stroman comparisons might be inevitable, but Pardinho is still a very long way from the majors.

    • Pardinho's start to 2019 will be delayed by elbow soreness, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet reports. The issue is being described as "mild" but will lead to Pardinho staying behind in extended spring training. Still just 18, Pardinho may have been set to remain there anyway, with short-season Vancouver being a potential starting point for him this season.
