The Reds reassigned Kriske to minor-league camp Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Kriske struck out seven and pitched to a 3.60 ERA and 0.80 WHIP over five innings during Cactus League play, but those solid numbers weren't enough for him to win a spot in the Reds' Opening Day bullpen. The 30-year-old journeyman reliever has made 20 career appearances in the big leagues over parts of three seasons with the Yankees, Orioles and Royals, logging a 11.22 ERA over 21.2 innings.... Reds' Brooks Kriske: Lands NRI from Reds
Kriske signed a minor-league contract with the Reds on Thursday that includes and invitation to spring training. Kriske allowed three runs over 6.2 innings with the Royals last season before finishing the year in Japan with the Seibu Lions. The 29-year-old holds an ugly 11.22 ERA over 21.2 frames at the major-league level, although he has struck out 25. The Royals requested for Kriske to go on unconditional release waivers Friday. Kriske is expected to continue his career in Japan. The 29-year-old got into four games with the Royals this season, posting a 4.05 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 6:4 K:BB over 6.2 innings. He also carried a 5.52 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 49:16 K:BB through 29.1 innings with Triple-A Omaha. The Royals optioned Kriske to Triple-A Omaha on Saturday. Kriske pitched two hitless innings Friday against the Dodgers, but he will return to Omaha after making four appearances in his latest MLB stint. Kriske allowed five runs on three hits and three walks while striking out one over one inning against Toronto on Monday. The right-hander entered in the ninth inning with the Yankees trailing by three, and by the time he retired three batters, Toronto had turned the contest into an 8-0 rout. Kriske opened the frame by serving up a homer to Teoscar Hernandez, then walked three of the next five batters before Marcus Semien belted a grand slam.
