  • Brentz (4-2) picked up the win Sunday after pitching a clean inning while striking out two batters. Brentz came on to pitch the seventh and took care of the Twins' hitters in order. The Royals would end up taking the lead in the top of the eighth and would hold on to give Brentz his fourth win of the season. It was the 26-year-old's first win since July 24, as he now owns a 3.17 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 70:36 K:BB over 59.2 innings.

  • Royals manager Mike Matheny said Sunday that Brentz (shoulder) could come off the 10-day injured list in the near future, Lynn Worthy of The Kansas City Star reports. Brentz hasn't been sent out on a minor-league rehab assignment since landing on the IL on Aug. 23 with an inflamed left shoulder, but Matheny's comments would seem to suggest the southpaw may not require one before rejoining the Royals. Prior to getting shut down with the injury, Brentz submitted a 3.15 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 64:34 K:BB In 54.1 innings while gathering two saves and 13 holds.

  • Brentz was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with a left shoulder impingement, Anne Rogers of MLB.com reports. Brentz delivered a scoreless inning and picked up a hold Friday against the Cubs, and he'll now be sidelined by the shoulder issue. It's unclear how long he's expected to be out, though he'll be eligible to be activated Aug. 31 versus Cleveland.
