    • Chirinos went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional RBI in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Nationals. Chirinos was the one to break through against Patrick Corbin, launching a two-run homer in the fifth, his first long ball of the season. The backstop followed up with an RBI single in the sixth, accounting for all of the Mets' scoring in the game. The highlights have been few and far between for Chirinos between Texas and New York, as evidenced by the fact his OPS is still below .500. He's a free agent after this season.

    • Chirinos will start at catcher and will bat ninth Monday against the Phillies. Chirinos has now alternated starts behind the dish with Wilson Ramos in the Mets' six games since joining the team Monday in a deadline-day deal with the Rangers. The two veteran backstops appear poised to work in a timeshare moving forward, as Mets manager Luis Rojas was reluctant to name either Ramos or Chirinos as the team's No. 1 catcher Monday, according to David Lennon of Newsday. Chirinos went 2-for-6 with a double and an RBI over his first two starts with the Mets.

    • The Mets acquired Chirinos and cash from the Rangers on Monday in exchange for a player to be named later, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Chirinos recently returned from the injured list and split time with Jeff Mathis in Texas over the past six games. It's unclear whether Chirinos will serve as the primary catcher for the Mets, especially since he's sputtered to a .119 batting average with two RBI over 14 games. Jose Trevino and Mathis should see an uptick in playing time for the Rangers going forward.

    • Chirinos is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers. Chirinos will be getting some routine maintenance in the day game after the night game, allowing Jeff Mathis to get a turn behind the dish. Over his three starts since returning from a stint on the injured list due to an ankle issue, Chirinos has gone 1-for-11 with a run scored.
