According to Baseball America, the following Blue Jays have elected for free agency rather than an outright assignment: shortstop Jonathan Diaz, outfielders Cole Gillespie and Darin Mastroianni, first baseman Dan Johnson, right-hander Bobby Korecky and left-handers Brad Mills and Raul Valdes.
The Blue Jays acquired pitcher Raul Valdes from the Astros Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Valdes was designated for assignment by the Astros two weeks ago and sent to Triple-A Oklahoma City after clearing waivers. He gave up five earned runs on five hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings over eight appearances with the Astros.
Astros reliever Raul Valdes, who was designated for assignment Sunday, cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The Astros designated lefty reliever Raul Valdes for assignment. He posted a 12.27 ERA in eight appearances, recording a save and a hold.
Astros pitcher Raul Valdes picked up a two-out save in his team's 7-6 win over the A's Saturday. The Astros began the inning up four runs, and Valdes was called upon to shut the door after a three-run home run cut the lead to one. He struck out both batters he faced to record his first save of the season. Valdes owns a 9.00 ERA and 4:3 K:BB ratio in three innings of action.
