Ryan signed a minor league contract with the Tigers on Monday, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports. Ryan spent the majority of his 2016 campaign with the Angels' organization at Triple-A Salt Lake, where he slashed a paltry .232/.295/.274 in 212 at-bats. The 34-year-old will likely begin the 2017 season in Triple-A Toledo and serve as emergency infield depth for the Tigers.
Ryan cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A on Saturday. Three days after being DFA'd, Ryan will had back to Triple-A Salt Lake, where he's hitting .263 with eight RBI and 17 strikeouts in 21 games this season. The veteran failed to make an impact in limited action for the Angels, compiling just one hit in 13 at-bats over 17 games.
Ryan was designated for assignment by the Angels on Wednesday, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports. Wednesday marks the second time Ryan has been DFA'd by the Angels in the last month. He had his contract selected by the Angels on June 1, but he only had two at-bats in the two weeks worth of games that followed before being DFA'd again Wednesday. He was designated for assignment to clear a spot on the active roster for Andrelton Simmons. Ryan will now be placed on waivers and could rejoin the Angels organization if he goes unclaimed.
Ryan had his contract selected by the Angels on Wednesday, Alden Gonzalez of MLB.com reports. Ryan's whirlwind stay with the Angels organization continued Wednesday with him being added back to the major league roster after being DFA'd and outrighted over the last week. He'll take the spot of Cliff Pennington, who was placed on the DL on Wednesday just days after returning from a hamstring injury. Ryan figures to add depth up the middle for the Angels and he can play some third base as well, but he's unlikely to lock down an everyday role.
Ryan cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday. This was to be expected, as Ryan really had no business being on a 40-man roster to begin with. The veteran infielder went 0-for-11 with the Angels before being designated for assignment last week.
