Player Outlook
George Springer's 2023 season surprised fantasy managers in many ways. The biggest surprise of them all is the 33 year old player eclipsed the 140 gamed played mark for the first time since he played all 162 in 2016. He also went out and posted the first 20-20 season of his career which was his first full season with even double-digit steals since the 2015 season. The 21 homers was a disappointment given the tweaks made to Rogers Centre to improve offense, but those improvements did not materialize into extra homers for anyone on the roster let alone Springer. His RBI production was held back with him hitting leadoff for most of the season and the bottom of the order not being on base as much as hoped. We cannot recommend looking for more of the same from this veteran given how much newness was introduced from Springer in 2023 as much as we can safely say repeating 20 homers is the only thing he is likely to repeat in 2024.

The 34-year-old outfielder stole a career-high 20 bases in 2023, and he's off and running again to begin the current campaign. Springer has three steals in three attempts so far, with all three coming in the last six games. While his .215 batting average (14-for-65) is disappointing, his 11:10 BB:K suggests it's a product of bad luck, not a bad approach at the plate. Springer's added two homers, four RBI and nine runs in 17 games as Toronto's leadoff hitter.

Springer led off the bottom of the first inning with a base knock, later coming around to score on an RBI single from Justin Turner. The outfielder added another single in the fifth inning, and he swiped second base for his second stolen base of the year before scoring on another Turner hit.     Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Thursday that Springer will remain the club's leadoff hitter in 2024, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports. Springer spent several weeks during the second half last season mostly battling fourth or fifth. However, he returned to his typical leadoff spot down the stretch and that's where his skipper says he'll begin the upcoming season. Schneider also noted that Springer is working on pulling the ball more in 2024. His pull rate was just 39.5 percent in 2023 after coming in at 48.3 percent in 2022 and 49.3 percent in 2021.
