Bell went 1-for-5 with a two-run homer in Thursday's 8-5 loss to the Cardinals. Bell put the Marlins ahead 3-1 in the fifth inning with a two-run shot off Lance Lynn, his first homer of the season. The 31-year-old Bell entered the day with just one RBI through his first seven games. He's now 7-for-31 to start the campaign after slashing .247/.325/.419 with 22 home runs and 74 RBI in 150 games between Miami and Cleveland last year.... See More ... See Less

Marlins' Josh Bell: Another XBH on Wednesday
Bell went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI in Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Nationals. The veteran first baseman hasn't made a lot of contact this spring, but when he has it's been loud. Bell is batting .200 (5-for-25) through 10 games with a 2:6 BB:K, but four of the hits have gone for extra bases with three doubles and a homer. After posting a .270/.338/.480 slash line over 53 contests for the Marlins in 2023 following a trade from the Guardians, Bell will try to do enough to establish a long-term spot in the Miami lineup -- since leaving the Pirates after the 2020 campaign, he's played for four different teams over the last three seasons.... Marlins' Josh Bell: Exercises option to stay in Miami
Bell exercised his $16.5 million player option for 2024 on Saturday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports. Bell began the season with the Guardians and struggled but thrived after arriving in Miami at the trade deadline, batting .270/.338/.480 with 11 home runs over 53 games for the Marlins down the stretch. The 31-year-old currently projects as the team's starting first baseman for 2024, although the Marlins could shift Bell to the designated hitter role if they find someone else to handle first.... Marlins' Josh Bell: Cracks three hits in loss
Bell went 3-for-4 with two doubles and one run in Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Phillies in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series. Bell did plenty of damage against the Phillies in the regular season, slashing .357/.455/.536 in eight games with one home run, four RBI and three runs. He continued that trend into the postseason Tuesday with his two doubles, the first coming against Zack Wheeler in the seventh and eventually resulting in Bell scoring the only run for the Marlins. The second two-bagger, which came off Phillies closer Craig Kimbrel in the ninth, also had a chance to be consequential, but Bell was stranded to end the game. The multi-hit tally was an extension of Bell's strong career postseason numbers, which now included a .300 average and .842 OPS across 41 plate appearances over 11 playoff contests.... See More ... Marlins' Josh Bell: Homers among three hits
Bell went 3-for-4 with a solo home run in Sunday's 6-1 victory over the Brewers. Bell popped a 379-foot homer off Freddy Peralta in the third inning for his 22nd of the year. He has enjoyed a nice turnaround since joining the Marlins from the Guardians at the trade deadline, hitting .276 with 11 home runs, 26 runs and 21 RBI over 48 games. Bell had previously hit .233 with 11 home runs, 26 runs and 48 RBI over 97 games in Cleveland.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Josh Bell: Snaps homer drought Wednesday
Bell went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional run and a double in a loss to the Mets on Wednesday. Bell accounted for half of Miami's scoring output with his 417-foot solo shot in the sixth inning. The veteran slugger had gone 14 games without a long ball prior to the blast, slashing .216/.273/.255 with a 30.9 percent strikeout rate over the cold stretch. He's slowed down quite a bit after slamming eight home runs over his first 26 contests as a Marlin.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Josh Bell: Homers in win
Bell went 1-for-4 with a two-run home in Tuesday's 6-3 win over the Dodgers. Bell put the Marlins ahead 3-2 in the fifth inning with a two-run blast off Clayton Kershaw, his 20th homer of the year. Bell had cooled off slightly after a red-hot start with Miami -- he'd gone 8-for-38 (.211) in his previous nine contests. Since joining the Marlins at the trade deadline, the 31-year-old third baseman is batting .271 with a .867 OPS and nine homers across 129 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Josh Bell: Goes yard again Saturday
Bell went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Nationals. The first baseman continues to thrive in a Miami uniform, as he broke up Jake Irvin's shutout bid with his solo shot in the sixth inning. Bell's gone yard three times in the last six games and is slashing .289/.366/.614 through 93 plate appearances as a Marlin with eight homers and 13 RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Josh Bell: Homers against former club
Bell went 2-for-4 with a solo home run Monday in a loss to the Padres. Bell played part of the season with San Diego last year before moving to Cleveland in the offseason and then being traded to Miami. The veteran bit his former team for a sixth-inning solo shot Monday, though it wasn't near enough to prevent a Marlins loss. Bell has been quite good since joining his new club at the trade deadline, batting an even .300 (21-for-70) with seven homers and 12 RBI over 18 contests.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Josh Bell: Goes yard in nightcap
Bell went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 3-1 loss to the Dodgers in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader. Bell also went 1-for-4 in the matinee. He's been nothing short of excellent since he was traded from Cleveland to Miami at the deadline, batting .288 with six homers, 11 RBI and 13 runs scored over 16 contests with his new team. Overall, Bell has a .242/.324/.419 slash line with 17 homers, 59 RBI, 39 runs scored and 22 doubles through 114 games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Josh Bell: Homers in win
Bell went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's victory over the Astros. Bell cranked the Marlins' third consecutive homer in the eighth inning Monday, a solo blast off Hector Neris to extend the lead to 5-1. The 31-year-old Bell has looked like a new player since he was traded from Cleveland at the deadline -- he's now hit four homers in his last five games while batting .326 (15-for-46) with a 1.100 OPS through his first 12 contests with Miami. Overall, Bell's slash line is up to .244/.328/.420with 16 homers, 58 RBI and 36 runs scored across 445 plate appearances this season.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Josh Bell: Continues power surge
Bell continued his hot hitting with a solo home run in Friday's loss to the Yankees. Bell's latest home run came from the left side of the plate as he pulverized a Randy Vasquez offering 407 feet to lead off the bottom of the sixth inning. It was measured at 107.9 mph off the bat. Bell has now homered four times in nine games with the Marlins since coming over at the trade deadline, and three of those dingers have come in his last two contests.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Josh Bell: Possible waiver wire pickups
Bell added another two home runs Wednesday, raising his batting average to .323 (10 for 31) with his new team. It's of course a tiny sample, but there's reason to think he's due for a turnaround apart from just his recent performance. His plate discipline and exit velocity readings remain as strong as ever, which helps explain why his .269 xBA and .451 xSLG are so far ahead of his actual .241 and .407 marks. He's also batting third with the Marlins as opposed to fifth or sixth with the Guardians, a team whose bottom third of the lineup is so bad that he scored just 26 runs in 93 games -- a shockingly low number for a player with solid on-base skills. We saw Bell's production drop off a cliff after he was dealt to the Padres last year. Maybe this change of scenery can have the opposite effect.... See More ... See Less -
Marlins' Josh Bell: Launches two homers in win
Bell went 2-for-4 with two homers and four RBI in Wednesday's 5-4 victory over the Reds. Bell took Graham Ashcraft deep to left field to lead off the top of the fourth, giving the Marlins their first run of the game. Then, with Miami down three in the eighth, the first baseman launched his second home run of the day, this time a three-run shot, to make it tie game. Bell has now hit safely in four straight games while it marked his second multi-hit game since joining the Marlins. It was also his first multi-home run game of the 2023 campaign.... See More ... Marlins' Josh Bell: Huge Miami debut
Bell went 4-for-5 with a walk, a home run, two runs scored and two RBI in Wednesday's 9-8 extra-innings win over the Phillies. The Marlins were shut out by Zack Wheeler through five innings, but Bell got them on the board with a solo shot in the sixth as he made an immediate impact for his new club. The 30-year-old's xBA (.275) and xSLG (.460) this season have been pacing well ahead of his actual production and are more in line with his career numbers, and if his bad luck in Cleveland didn't follow him to south Florida, Bell could prove to be a huge addition for Miami down the stretch as it chases a playoff spot.... Marlins' Josh Bell: Dealt to Miami
Miami acquired Bell from the Guardians on Tuesday in exchange for infielders Jean Segura and Kahlil Watson, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. The Marlins moved Garrett Cooper to the Padres just before the 6 p.m. ET deadline, and Bell will replace Cooper as an option at first base and designated hitter. Bell, a 30-year-old former All-Star, had slashed .233/.318/.383 with 11 home runs and 48 RBI through 97 games this season for Cleveland.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Josh Bell: Receives maintenance day
Bell is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals. Bell had started each of Cleveland's last eight contests, so he's likely just receiving some routine maintenance as the Guardians and Royals wrap up their series with a day game after a night game. With Bell on the bench, Jose Ramirez will get a day out of the field and serve as the Guardians' designated hitter, while Tyler Freeman picks up a start at third base.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Josh Bell: Homers again, collects three hits
Bell went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBI in Wednesday's 7-5 loss to the Pirates. Bell drove home a run in the top of the fifth with a single to put the Guardians up 4-0 and later added a solo shot to left field as Cleveland tried (unsuccessfully) to mount a late comeback. The first baseman tallied three hits on the afternoon, marking his fourth three-hit game this season, and he's now registered multiple hits in back-to-back games. Bell has also homered in each of his last two games while adding four RBI.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Josh Bell: Homers against former team
Bell went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Tuesday's 10-1 win over the Pirates. Bell went yard in the third inning to extend the Guardians' lead to 7-0. The first baseman is batting just .234 (11-for-47) in July, though he has hit two homers over 13 games this month. He's at a .232/.323/.386 slash line with 10 long balls, 44 RBI, 22 runs scored and 17 doubles through 86 contests overall. He's on pace to fall shy of 20 homers for the second year in a row.... Guardians' Josh Bell: Sitting Sunday
Bell isn't in the Guardians' lineup Sunday against the Rangers, Andre Knott of Bally Sports Ohio reports. After starting the second half 2-for-7 with a walk, Bell will get a day off for Sunday's series finale. Jose Ramirez will fill in as Cleveland's designated hitter, allowing Gabriel Arias to pick up a start at the hot corner and bat eighth.... See More ... See Less
