  • Nick Goody: Lands with indy ball team

Goody signed a contract Monday with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. Goody had previously spent time in the Mexican League with Los Acereros de Monclava to begin the 2022 season, but he'll return to the United States as he looks to earn another opportunity in the big leagues. Before that happens, Goody will likely need to parlay a strong showing on Long Island into a minor-league deal with an organization. He most recently appeared in the majors with the Rangers in 2020, when he submitted a 9.00 ERA and 2.00 WHIP across 11 innings.

  • Yankees' Nick Goody: Back with Yankees on MiLB deal

Goody signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Tuesday, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports. Goody latched on with the Nationals on a minor-league deal after being released by the Yankees in early July. While Goody posted a 2.86 ERA with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to begin the campaign, he struggled to a 5.14 ERA across his 14 innings at Rochester before being cut loose once again. The right-hander will provide New York with minor-league relief depth as he looks to make his way onto the major-league roster down the stretch.

The right-hander made 17 relief appearances for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and was effective with a 2.86 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in 22 innings. He's been assigned to Triple-A Rochester but could join the Nationals' pitching staff at some point in 2021.

  • Yankees' Nick Goody: Gets opportunity with Yankees

The Yankees announced Wednesday that Goody signed a minor-league contract with the organization that includes an invitation to big-league spring training. The 29-year-old will rejoin the organization that drafted him in the sixth round in 2012. Since making his big-league debut for the Yankees in 2015, Goody has spent time in the Cleveland and Texas organizations through the first six years of his career, logging a 4.19 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 17.2 K-BB% over 158 appearances. He found little success with the Rangers in 2020 while also missing time due to back spasms, so he'll need to stay healthy and perform well in spring training to have a realistic shot at winning a spot in New York's Opening Day bullpen.

  • Rangers' Nick Goody: Impressive spring

Goody struck out the side in Monday's spring game against the Athletics. Goody has been the bullpen's highlight in the Cactus League. Over six scoreless innings, he's allowed one hit and two walks while striking out 14. He's nothing more than a fastball-slider reliever with average four-seam velocity who's been dogged by high walk and HR rates. But through it all, he's shown an ability to punch guys out, averaging 11.3 K/9 over the previous three seasons in Cleveland.

  • Indians' Nick Goody: Ready for spring

Manager Terry Francona said last week that Goody (elbow) will be ready for spring training, Joe Noga of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Goody has progressed as anticipated from the arthroscopic procedure he underwent on his throwing elbow in late August, which ended his 2018 campaign prematurely. Though elbow problems limited Goody to just 11.2 innings with the big club and hindered his effectiveness when he pitched, the right-hander could reclaim a meaningful role out of the bullpen in 2019 if he's feeling healthy coming out of the spring. He was one of the Tribe's most dependable setup men in 2017, accruing a 2.80 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 72:20 K:BB In 54.2 innings.
