  • Raudy Read: Cut by Chicago

The White Sox released Read from his minor-league contract Sept. 13. Read saw action in 14 games in the majors with the Nationals between the 2017 and 2019 seasons, but he split time between Triple-A Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham in 2022 after signing with the White Sox in February. Between the two affiliates, the 28-year-old catcher slashed .303/.396/.557 with 18 home runs across 364 plate appearances.

  • White Sox's Raudy Read: Gets work in White Sox organization

Read agreed with the White Sox on a minor-league contract earlier in February, Chris Hilburn-Trinkle of Baseball America reports. Read will be moving on to the third organization of his career after stints with Washington and Minnesota since he entered the professional ranks in 2011. The 28-year-old's lone big-league action came with the Nationals in the 2017 and 2019 seasons, with Read logging just 22 plate appearances between those years. He's expected to settle with Triple-A Charlotte to begin the 2022 campaign.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Sent to minor-league camp

The Nationals reassigned Read to minor-league spring training Sunday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. While Read was given the chance to compete for a backup catcher job this spring, the Nationals' decision to outright him off the 40-man roster in October made him a long shot to break camp with the big club. Read will likely spend most of the 2021 campaign at Triple-A Rochester.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Demoted to alternate site

The Nationals optioned Read to their alternate training site Sunday. Read's latest stint with the big club lasted just one day, as he served as the team's 29th man in its doubleheader Saturday versus the Mets. Assuming the 26-year-old sticks on the Nationals' 40-man roster through the offseason, he'll likely open the 2021 campaign at Triple-A Fresno.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Recalled for doubleheader

Read was recalled by the Nationals as the 29th man ahead of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mets. Read will serve as a fourth option at catcher for the Nationals on Saturday during their pair of games against the Mets. If he makes an appearance during the doubleheader, he'll be making his 2020 debut on the penultimate day of the regular season.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Gets demoted

The Nationals optioned Read to their alternate training site Monday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. Though Read cracked the Nationals' 30-man roster out of summer camp, he was merely a luxury piece as a third catcher and was a prime candidate to lose his spot once the team had a need elsewhere. With the team officially adding veteran utility man Josh Harrison to the roster Monday, Read was the unsurprising choice to be cast off the active roster.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Gets spot on roster

The Nationals recalled Read from Triple-A Fresno on Thursday. The expanded 30-man roster allowed Read to break camp with the Nationals, but he'll likely be at the top of the list for a demotion if the team needs to address depth at another position as the season unfolds. Read will be the clear No. 3 catcher in Washington so long as both Yan Gomes and Kurt Suzuki are available.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: On bubble for 30-man roster

Read is in consideration for one of the final spots on the 30-man roster, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports. Nats manager Dave Martinez wants to carry a third catcher so he has the flexibility to use Kurt Suzuki as a DH or pinch hitter on the days he's not catching, opening the door for Read to earn a spot. The 26-year-old has also been getting some reps at first base in summer camp, potentially giving him a little more versatility off the bench. Read made his big-league debut in 2017 and has only 22 plate appearances with the Nats to date, but he did slash a solid .275/.317/.546 with 20 homers in 82 games for Triple-A Fresno last season.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Sent to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Read to Triple-A Fresno on Sunday, Jessica Camerato of MLB.com reports. Barring an injury, Kurt Suzuki and Yan Gomes are locked in as the Nationals' Opening Day catchers, so it comes as little surprise that Read was cut this early in camp. He should be in store for steady playing time as he heads back to Fresno for a second straight season. He appeared in 82 games for the affiliate in 2019, slashing .275/.317/.546 with 20 home runs across 328 plate appearances.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Excluded from NLDS roster

Read is not on the roster for the National League Division Series against the Dodgers. Read served as a third catcher on the wild-card roster but will not be available for the NLDS after the Nationals expanded their bullpen to seven pitchers. Kurt Suzuki and Yan Gomes will serve as the catchers for the series.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Joins big-league club

Read was recalled from Triple-A Fresno on Sunday. Read returns to the Nationals with rosters expanding Sunday and provides depth at catcher behind Kurt Suzuki and Yan Gomes. The 25-year-old posted a .275/.317/.546 slash line with 20 homers in 82 games with Fresno.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Up as 26th man

Read was called up to serve as the 26th man for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Rockies, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. Read could help rest the legs of Yan Gomes and Kurt Suzuki, but he's unlikely to spend a long time on the roster. Erick Fedde was optioned in a corresponding move.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Sent down

Read was optioned to Triple-A Fresno, Jamal Collier of MLB.com reports. The Nationals are very set at catcher at the big-league level, so Read will serve as organizational depth again in 2019.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Promoted to big leagues

Read was called up from Double-A Harrisburg on Friday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNsports.com reports. Read earned his first trip to the big leagues by hitting 17 home runs and posting a respectable .767 OPS over 108 games with Harrisburg this season. He slots in as the third catcher on the roster -- and could eventually fall behind Pedro Severino as well -- so expect his playing time to be minimal.

  • Nationals' Raudy Read: Sent back to minor league camp

Read was returned to the Nationals minor league camp Monday, The Washington Post reports. After being added to the 40-man roster this offseason following a solid but not spectacular 2016 campaign for High-A Potomac, Read will get his first crack at the Double-A level this year. Further improvement, both at the plate and behind it, could put him in line to make his big league debut sometime in 2018, but he only profiles as a backup option at catcher down the road.
