Nationals' Taylor Gushue: Moves into roster pool

The Washington Nationals added Taylor Gushue to their 60-man roster pool Wednesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports. The 27-year-old backstop provides Washington with another depth option behind the plate after Welington Castillo (personal) announced last week that he would opt out of the 2020 season. The Nationals are expected to rely heavily on the tandem of Yan Gomes and Kurt Suzuki behind the plate, so unless one of those two catchers misses time during the 60-game season, Gushue likely won't be much of a factor for Washington. Gushue has yet to appear at the MLB level but turned in a productive season with Triple-A Fresno in 2019, slashing .312/.358/.517 over 268 plate appearances.
