Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Mashing in High-A

Anthony Volpe is hitting .305/.416/.588 with eight homers, seven steals, 22 RBI and 37 runs over 34 games with High-A Hudson Valley. After crushing Low-A to the tune of a 1.078 OPS, it's been more of the same in High-A, where he's sitting on a 1.004 OPS. All told, Volpe has now smashed 20 homers and stolen 28 bases in 88 minor-league games this season. His strikeout rate's up a bit and his walk rate's down a bit since the promotion, but both are still solid. Few prospects in the game have raised their stock as much as Volpe has this season, as the 20-year-old -- a 2019 first-round pick -- was considered a glove-first shortstop before this big breakout. The bat has clearly caught up, and then some.

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Red hot in Low-A ball

Anthony Volpe is slashing .316/.444/.638 with 10 home runs, 45 RBI and 19 stolen bases for Low-A Tampa. The New York Yankees' first-round pick in the 2019 first-year player draft has flashed both power and speed in his first campaign in A-ball while also walking more times (38) than he has struck out (37). He was especially hot in June, slashing .392/.515/.848 with seven homers and eight steals. The 20-year-old is regarded as a solid defensive shortstop, so he could ascend quickly through the organization's minor-league system if he continues to dominate offensively.

Yankees' Anthony Volpe: Staying sharp at home during hiatus

Anthony Volpe has been taking part in hitting and defensive drills at his home in New Jersey during MLB's hiatus, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports.Volpe, the New York Yankees' first-round draft choice last season, spent much of March in self-quarantine after two fellow minor leaguers tested positive for COVID-19 in spring camp. He has since taken to hitting into a net and lifting weights at his home, as well as working on his defensive mechanics with what he describes as "a ton of drills...that take up literally no space." The 19-year-old will look to bounce back from a difficult first season in rookie ball during which he batted .219 and came down with a bout of mononucleosis that ended his campaign early.
