Gay (Achilles) officially opted out of the final year of his contract with the Kings on Monday and will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, Zach Lowe of ESPN reports.

Gay announced back in May that this was his plan and he stuck with it, as despite going down with a torn Achilles in mid-January, the swingman will walk away from the $14.3 million the Kings would have owed him for the 2017-18 season. Whether he gets a pay raise or not this offseason ultimately depends on how healthy he is, and Gay has said that his rehab is on schedule and that he doesn't expect to be limited for the start of next season.
