Hayes is part of the first unit for Wednesday's game against the Heat, Keith Langlois of Pistons.com reports.
Surprisingly, Hayes will draw the starting nod in the backcourt alongside Cade Cunningham instead of Jaden Ivey. Though Hayes has historically been a strong producer in the assist column, he's likely to be relegated to an off-ball role when on the floor with Cunningham.
