Westbrook has been traded to the Lakers, along with two future second-round picks, in exchange for Kyle Kuzma, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Montrezl Harrell and the No. 22 pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Earlier Thursday, the Lakers were rumored to be acquiring Buddy Hield from Sacramento, but the tide quickly shifted in favor of Westbrook heading home to the West Coast to team up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. On paper, Westbrook is a questionable, at best, fit on one of the worst shooting teams in the league last season, but he'll bring much-needed playmaking to supplement James and Davis -- both of whom battled injuries at key junctures in 2020-21. After a slow start to the year in Washington, Westbrook cranked up his production over the second half of the season and finished as the NBA's assists leader for the third time in four seasons. Across 65 appearances, Westbrook averaged 22.2 points, 11.7 assists, 11.5 rebounds and 1.4 steals, but he shot just 31.5 percent from three and matched his career-worst percentage (65.6 percent) at the free-throw line.
Westbrook registered 24 points (7-20 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 8-10 FT), 10 assists and eight rebounds in 37 minutes during Wednesday's 129-112 loss to the 76ers. The 32-year-old came up two rebounds short of posting his third straight triple-double in Wednesday's series-clinching loss. Westbrook bounced back after totaling just 26 points over his first two games in the series, averaging 23.0 points, 13.7 rebounds and 11.3 assists over his last three games of the playoffs. The 12-year veteran goes into the offseason with two years remaining on his original five-year, $206 million contract.
Westbrook (ankle) is listed as available for Wednesday's Game 5 against the Sixers. The Wizards initially listed Westbrook as "questionable" but quickly issued an update to clarify that the guard will, in fact, be available. Westbrook has been battling an ankle issue since Game 2, but it didn't stop him from putting up triple-doubles in each of the last two contests. He's still struggling to score the ball efficiently for the series, but Westbrook offset a horrific 3-of-19 shooting night in Game 4 by going 13-of-16 at the free throw line on his way to 19 points, 21 rebounds, 14 assists and two steals in 42 minutes.
Westbrook (ankle) is questionable for Wednesday's Game 5 against the 76ers. Westbrook played through the issue during Games 3 and 4, and he averaged 22.5 points, 16.5 rebounds, 12.0 assists and 1.0 steals but shot just 32.4 percent from the field. It would be surprising if he sat out with the Wizards down 3-1 in the series.
Westbrook mustered 19 points (3-19 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 13-16 FT), 21 rebounds, 14 assists and two steals across 42 minutes in Monday's Game 4 win over the 76ers. Westbrook struggled massively from the floor, but he took advantage of his elite ability to get to the charity stripe to finish with his second-best scoring output of the series. This was also his second straight triple-double, and the star point guard is averaging 17.8 points, 12.3 assists and 11.0 rebounds per game during the current series.
