Wallace was claimed off waivers by the Timberwolves on Monday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. The California product was recently cut loose by the Clippers in the aftermath of Kawhi Leonard's signing and Paul George's deal but he didn't last long on the free-agent market. Wallace had a disappointing season last year, averaging just 3.5 points and 1.6 rebounds over 62 games played. The 24-year-old will look for a fresh start with Minnesota moving forward and will compete for minutes at the point-guard position.
The Clippers waived Wallace on Saturday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Wallace was bumped from the roster in the aftermath of the Clippers' impending signing of free agent Kawhi Leonard and deal with the Thunder to acquire Paul George. Though he saw action in 62 games with the Clippers in 2018-19, he struggled to find a foothold in the club's deep backcourt rotation, averaging just 10.1 minutes per contest. The 25-year-old likely won't have to wait long to find a new home elsewhere.
Wallace finished with zero points (0-4 FG) and one rebound in six minutes during Wednesday's 111-105 loss to the Jazz. Wallace appeared in nine of 11 tilts during the month of February. However, he logged double-digit minutes only five times during this recent stretch while failing to reach double figures in scoring once. In fact, the last time Wallace scored at least 10 points was back on Jan. 12. As a result, he's avoidable across most formats.
Wallace (coach's decision) didn't see the floor Thursday in the Clippers' 123-120 overtime loss to the Lakers. Wallace has played just four total minutes over the Clippers' past five contests while failing to log any court time in three of those games entirely. He seems to have surrendered a rotation spot to rookie first-round pick Jerome Robinson at this point.
Wallace had two points (1-4 FG), three rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 14 minutes during Sunday's 106-96 win over the Magic. Wallace has earned at least 20 minutes just once since recording a season-high 15 points back on Dec. 11. Given his limited role, he's only worthy of consideration in the very deepest leagues.
