Akoon-Purcell totaled 24 points (9-21 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 3-5 FT), 10 rebounds, three assists and a steal across 36 minutes in the Pacers' 86-75 win over the Clippers on Friday in a Las Vegas Summer League consolation game. Akoon-Purcell's big double-double helped the Pacers grind out a win on Friday, and the second-year forward put together a solid showing in this year's summer league. He played overseas in the Israeli Premier League last season, but he's giving the NBA another try and hoping to make a roster after boosting his stock this summer.
Akoon-Purcell has signed with Hapoel Tel Aviv of the Israeli Premier League, Harrison Wind of BSNDenver.com reports. Akoon-Purcell appeared in seven games for the Nuggets this season, totaling 22 minutes. In two G League appearances, he averaged 24.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals in 29.0 minutes. Denver, as a result of injuries, was forced to use up Akoon-Purcell's 45 days of NBA eligibility quickly. It seems he would rather test his luck overseas than in the G League for the time being.
Akoon-Purcell was sent to the G League on Wednesday. The move was expected when Akoon-Purcell initially signed his two-way contract with Denver earlier this season. The 25-year-old impressed with his defensive intensity during Summer League, but has only played in six games during the regular season, averaging 1.2 points and 1.0 assist in 3.5 minutes per contest. Akoon-Purcell will have an opportunity to get more reps in the G League and could feasibly see himself back in Denver before the end of the season, especially if any injuries occur.
