Duval has been claimed off waivers by the Rockets, Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports. Duval was waived by the Bucks on Sunday after failing to make much of an impact in the NBA or the G League. However, the Rockets seem interested in his upside.
The Bucks waived Duval on Sunday, Marc Spears of ESPN reports. A highly regarded high school prospect, Duval had one up-and-down season at Duke before going undrafted in 2018. The Bucks picked up him shortly after the draft, but he was never able to make an impact at the NBA level, appearing in just three games for Milwaukee on the season. Duval did average 12.5 points, 3.4 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 steals in 39 games for the Wisconsin Herd, though he struggled to shoot the ball efficiently -- especially from beyond the arc (24.1% 3PT).
Duval (ankle) finished Friday's win with 15 points (5-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 4-6 FT), eight assists, three rebounds and three steals. Duval missed the previous contest with an ankle injury, but was able to return in short order. The 20-year-old is averaging 12.4 points, 3.7 assists, 2.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 36 games with the Herd.
Duval (ankle) did not play in Monday's loss to South Bay. It seems likely Duval could begin to see some run with the Bucks should Milwaukee hold onto their top position in the Eastern Conference, meaning an injured ankle could wind up being disastrous for the prospects of the rookie point guard. It's unclear how serious the injury may be, but the Herd figure to be cautious with Duval, particularly with a variety of guards performing at a high level currently.
Duval played the final 54 seconds of Friday's 122-107 win over the Mavericks, finishing with two points (1-1 FG) and one assist. Duval registered his first career points just 13 seconds after checking into the game for his NBA debut. The rookie point guard has played exclusively with the G League's Wisconsin Herd this season but had the rare opportunity to suit up Friday with three players (Nikola Mirotic, Khris Middleton and Donte DiVincenzo) unavailable. Middleton is expected back for Saturday's game against the Magic, so Duval is a decent bet to return to the inactive list for that contest.
