  • Darren Collison: Scores 19 points during start

Collison logged 19 points (8-13 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, six assists and three steals across 37 minutes during Sunday's 126-120 win over the Agua Caliente Clippers. Collison played well during his first start for South Bay's G League team. The 34-year-old will continue to log starts in place of an injured Mac McClung recovering from concussion symptoms.

  • Darren Collison: Debuts against Legends

Collison logged 11 points (5-8 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-1 FT), four assists and two rebounds across 24 minutes during Friday's 122-110 loss to the Texas Legends. Collison made his G League debut Friday and will try earning an NBA call-up before its ongoing season concludes. However, South Bay's young starting backcourt (Mac McClung and Mason Jones) could prevent Collison from recording sufficient playing time needed to demonstrate his abilities.

  • Darren Collison: Joining South Bay Lakers

Collison agreed Tuesday to a contract with the Lakers' G League affiliate, the South Bay Lakers, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Collison is hoping to lead the No. 2 seed South Bay Lakers to a G League title, which could help earn him a call-up to the NBA. He appeared in three games for the Lakers earlier this season in December. In his 37 minutes, he totaled four points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal.

  • Darren Collison: Contract expires

The Lakers didn't re-sign Collison after his 10-day contract expired Monday, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports. Collison played double-digit minutes in each of his three appearances for the Lakers during his 10-day contract. However, now that the Lakers are only missing Anthony Davis and Kendrick Nunn due to knee injuries, the veteran point guard's services are no longer needed.

  • Lakers' Darren Collison: Plays 12 minutes Christmas Day

Collison amassed zero points (0-3 FG, 0-2 3Pt), two rebounds and one assist over 12 minutes during Saturday's 122-115 loss to the Nets. Collison joined the Lakers on Christmas Eve via a 10-day hardship contract, and he was thrown directly into the fire amid a handful of COVID-related absences. The veteran last played in the NBA in 2018-19 as a member of the Pacers, and he looked plenty rusty in his return to action. In the short term, the UCLA product could continue to see minutes off the bench, but there's not much fantasy upside here.

  • Lakers' Darren Collison: Signing on with Lakers

The Lakers are planning to sign Collison to a 10-day hardship contract and are hopeful he'll be available for Saturday's Christmas Day game against Brooklyn, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Collison initially announced his retirement following the 2018-2019 campaign and will be making a comeback to the NBA. The 34-year-old guard considered a return during the 2019-20 season and was speculated to be signing with either the Lakers or the Clippers but it never came to fruition. The Lakers currently have five players in protocols along with an additional two that're injured. They'll now bring in Collison to provide them with some added depth in the backcourt for the next 10 days.

  • Darren Collison: Won't return to NBA this season

Collison has decided not to return to the NBA this season, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. For the last few weeks, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that Collison would eventually sign with either the Clippers or the Lakers, but he's now decided to remain retired for the duration of the season. This isn't a massive blow to either team, but the Lakers, especially, could have used Collison's services as another ball-handler after they opted not to make any trades before Thursday's deadline.

  • Darren Collison: Considering NBA return

Collison is considering a February return to the NBA, with the Lakers and Clippers being his two preferred destinations, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Collison surprisingly announced his retirement in late June, citing his desire to help the less fortunate through his Jehovah's Witnesses faith. However, it seems he has the itch to play again and is hoping to latch onto a contender. Considering the Lakers and Clippers both have relatively stable point guard rotations, it's not clear what sort of role Collison might hold if he signs with one of those organizations. However, his playmaking ability and three-point shooting ability could be enough to bump some competition out of the way.

  • Pacers' Darren Collison: Announces retirement

Collison announced Friday via a personal essay posted on The Undefeated that he intends to retire from professional basketball and focus his efforts on aiding the less fortunate through his Jehovah's Witnesses faith. This decision is relatively surprising, as Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN relays that the 31-yearpold point guard was set to fetch an estimated 10-to-$12 million annual salary as a free agent this summer. Collison opened his career with the Hornets in 2009-10 and has gone on to suit up with the Mavericks, Clippers, Kings and Pacers over his 708 career games. Assuming he stays committed to retiring, he'll walk away with averages of 12.5 points, 5.0 assists and 1.2 steals across 29.4 minutes per game. The Pacers, meanwhile, will be in the market for a new point guard this summer, with impending free agent Ricky Rubio among the names who has been linked to Indiana.

  • Pacers' Darren Collison: Ends season strongly in loss

Collison totaled 19 points (5-13 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 6-6 FT), six rebounds, five assists, and two steals in 33 minutes during Sunday's 110-106 loss to the Celtics. Collison dropped 19 points in Sunday's Game 4 loss, rounding out his season with a nice all-around performance. Collison, along with a number of other players, was forced into a more sizeable role when Victor Oladipo was lost for the season. He finished with season averages of 6.0 assists and 1.4 steals while also shooting efficiently from both the field and the free-throw line. He is not getting any younger and could be a point-guard to target in the later rounds of next seasons drafts with Oladipo a chance to miss the beginning of the season.

  • Pacers' Darren Collison: Doubtful Friday

Collison (groin) is doubtful for Friday's contest against the Celtics. It may still come down to a game-time call for the point guard, but it would be a surprise if he played. Cory Joseph figures to draw the start if Collison is ultimately ruled out.

  • Pacers' Darren Collison: Game-time call Friday

Collison (groin) will be a game-time decision Friday against the Celtics. Collison went through Thursday's practice, which is an encouraging sign for his potential availability. He's been out over the past two games, which has prompted Cory Joseph to start at point guard.

  • Pacers' Darren Collison: Remains out Wednesday

Collison (groin) has been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Pistons, Scott Agness of The Athletic reports. This will be Collison's second straight game on the sideline since this groin injury was uncovered, and the details surrounding it remain unclear. With just four games left and the Pacers essentially locked into a first-round matchup with the Celtics, however, the team likely won't rush its starting point guard back to the floor. Cory Joseph should again get the start at point guard in Collison's absence.

  • Pacers' Darren Collison: Ruled out Monday

Collison will not play Monday against the Pistons due to a groin injury. This is the first we've heard of the injury, which Collison apparently suffered during Saturday's narrow loss to the Magic. With Wes Matthews (hamstring) also ruled out Monday, the Pacers will likely turn to Cory Joseph and Tyreke Evans for increased minutes, while Aaron Holiday could also re-enter the rotation.

  • Pacers' Darren Collison: Posts 24 points, nine dimes in loss

Collison collected 24 points (10-15 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 2-4 FT), nine assists, three rebounds, and one steal in 33 minutes during Saturday's 121-116 loss to the Magic. Collison was extremely efficient offensively, amassing at least 20 points for the seventh time through 74 appearances this season. With the Pacers still in contention for home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs, Collison and the rest of the regulars should be expected to maintain their usual roles across the final five regular season games.

Collison will be back in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against the Thunder, Jeremiah Johnson of Fox Sports Indiana reports. Collison had missed the previous three games with a quad bruise, but he was able to go through shootaround in the morning, and he'll reclaim his usual spot in the starting backcourt. The veteran's return will likely send Cory Joseph back to the bench.
