Wizards' Spencer Dinwiddie: Set to join Wizards

Spencer Dinwiddie agreed in principle with the Washington Wizards on a contract Monday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report, Dinwiddie's deal is worth roughly $60 million over three years. After averaging a career-high 20.6 points per game over 64 contests in 2019-20, Dinwiddie was set to move into a smaller role for Brooklyn in 2020-21 with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant healthy after missing most of their inaugural seasons with the Nets due to injury. Dinwiddie ended up playing in just three games before suffering a partial ACL tear in his right knee that required season-ending surgery, then watched as the Nets added another star guard to the mix in James Harden. With the high-priced triumvirate of Harden, Irving and Durant back for 2021-22, Brooklyn was never expected to make a run at Dinwiddie in free agency, and the 28-year-old appears to have found an ideal landing spot with the Wizards, who are looking to replace starting point guard Russell Westbrook following his recent trade to the Lakers. Given the compensation he's receiving, Dinwiddie -- who was cleared for full basketball activities in June -- should immediately step in next to Bradley Beal on the top unit. Expect Dinwiddie to serve as the Wizards' No. 2 scoring option and top playmaker.

The 28-year-old guard could look for a roster spot elsewhere after appearing in just three games for Brooklyn during the 2020-21 season. Nets' Spencer Dinwiddie: Headed for surgery next week

The Brooklyn Nets announced Monday that Spencer Dinwiddie (knee) will undergo season-ending surgery next week.Dinwiddie will require a procedure after he was diagnosed with a partial ACL tear in his right knee following his early departure in Sunday's loss to the Hornets. The 27-year-old is expected to be back to full health by the time NBA training camps open up ahead of the upcoming season, which could prompt Dinwiddie to decline his $12.3 million player option for 2021-22 and try his luck in free agency. As for the Nets, the loss of Dinwiddie will likely free up some more playing time for Landry Shamet, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot and Taurean Prince.

Nets' Spencer Dinwiddie: Suffers partial ACL tear

Spencer Dinwiddie will miss the remainder of the 2020-21 season after he was diagnosed with a partial ACL tear in his right knee following his exit from Sunday's 106-104 loss to the Hornets, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.According to Charania, Dinwiddie sustained no other structural damage to his knee, but he'll still need to undergo surgery in the coming days and will face a multi-month rehab before being cleared for game action. Fortunately for Dinwiddie, he's expected to make a full recovery from surgery ahead of training camp in 2021-22, which should help his chances of earning a multi-year deal in free agency if he chooses to decline his $12.3 million player option for next season. Dinwiddie had started alongside Kyrie Irving at shooting guard in the Brooklyn Nets' first three games, but it's unclear at this time if Brooklyn plans to move sixth man Caris LeVert into the top unit, or perhaps turn to a lower-usage player like Landry Shamet or Taurean Prince to complement the starting five.
