76ers' Zhaire Smith: Paces team in scoring

Zhaire Smith delivered 18 points (8-19 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), five rebounds, three assists and two steals across 35 minutes during the Philadelphia 76ers' 84-81 overtime loss to the Thunder in a Las Vegas Summer League game Monday. The 2018 first-round pick continued his strong summer league performances with a team-leading scoring total, and he's now posted three straight double-digit point tallies in Las Vegas. Smith is thought to have plenty of untapped potential after having only played in six regular-season games during his rookie campaign, and he's encouragingly receiving plenty of minutes thus far in summer league play.

76ers' Zhaire Smith: Scores 14 points in Saturday's loss

Zhaire Smith recorded 14 points (4-9 FG, 2-5 3Pt, 4-5 FT), four rebounds, one assist, and one steal in 24 minutes during Saturday's 96-82 loss to the Celtics.Smith has been impressive through the first two summer league tilts here this offseason, and he's likely expected to maintain a reserve role as a sophomore. Smith's willingness to let it fly from beyond the arc theoretically should improve his odds of earning more substantial minutes, as he's already a pretty well-rounded player with high-level athleticism and a good feel for the game on both ends of the floor.

76ers' Zhaire Smith: Inactive for Game 2

Zhaire Smith is inactive for Game 2 against the Raptors on Monday, Blake Murphy of The Athletic reports. The Sixers activated Amir Johnson as a precaution after Joel Embiid (illness) missed morning shootaround, so Smith has been handed an inactive designation. 76ers' Zhaire Smith: Could see minutes Saturday

Zhaire Smith could see minutes during Saturday's Game 1 against the Raptors, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. Coach Brett Brown called Smith an "incredible athlete" who "isn't afraid of the moment."With Mike Scott (heel) out for Game 1, the Philadelphia 76ers already thin bench has gotten thinner. As a result, coach Brown will entertain the idea of giving Smith some minutes. The rookie played just one minute during Round 1, but he picked up two starts in April, averaging 14.0 points, 3.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds in 31.0 minutes.

    76ers' Zhaire Smith: Starting Tuesday

Zhaire Smith will start Tuesday's game against the Heat, Serena Winter of NBC Sports Philly reports. The rookie missed most of the season while working back from a preseason injury, but he made his season debut on Mar. 25 and has played double-digit minutes in three of the last four contests. Tuesday will mark Smith's first NBA start, as he'll get the nod at shooting guard in place of J.J. Redick (back).

76ers' Zhaire Smith: Makes long-awaited NBA debut

Zhaire Smith made his NBA debut in Monday's 119-98 loss to the Magic, producing three points (1-1 FG, 1-1 3Pt), one rebound and one steal in six minutes.Smith's appearance in garbage time was somewhat of a surprise after coach Brett Brown previously said that the rookie first-round pick wouldn't suit up for the NBA team in 2018-19 following an extended layoff to begin the campaign due to a fractured left foot in addition to a thoracoscopy that was necessary after Smith experienced an allergic reaction to a food product. Brown may have changed his stance after Smith resumed full basketball activities in late January before logging 11 games with the G League's Delaware Blue Coats. Now that the G League season is over, Smith should be with the Philadelphia 76ers through the team's postseason run, but he's unlikely to be a regular member of Brown's rotation.

76ers' Zhaire Smith: Closes G League season well

Zhaire Smith put up 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-3 3Pt), five rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 27 minutes Saturday in the G League Delaware Blue Coats' 124-117 win over the Maine Red Claws.Delaware finished its season with back-to-back games, with Smith playing in both and tallying a combined 21 points. His availability for consecutive contests suggests the Philadelphia 76ers no longer harbor any concerns about Smith following his lengthy recovery from a Jones fracture in his foot. The 19-year-old will presumably rejoin the parent club for the remainder of the regular season and postseason, but coach Brett Brown previously said that he doesn't expect Smith to make his NBA debut until 2019-20.

76ers' Zhaire Smith: Returns to G League

The Philadelphia 76ers assigned Zhaire Smith to the G League's Delaware Blue Coats on Wednesday. For the first time all season, Smith was available off the bench for the 76ers in Tuesday's 106-99 win over the Cavaliers, though he didn't make his NBA debut in the narrow victory. Coach Brett Brown has previously said that he doesn't anticipate Smith will play for the 76ers in 2018-19, though it's looking possible that the rookie sees some garbage-time run in the final few weeks of the regular season if the team's playoff positioning is secure. At the very least, Smith seems to be healthy again after a fractured left foot and a serious allergic reaction kept him idle until late January. Conditioning remains more of a concern for the rookie, who will continue to appear in games periodically with Delaware over the next few weeks as he looks to stay sharp.

76ers' Zhaire Smith: Available to debut Tuesday

Zhaire Smith (illness) has been called up from the G League and will be available for Tuesday's game against the Cavaliers, Keith Pompey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports. In very surprising news, Smith has a chance to make his NBA debut Tuesday despite earlier reports that the organization would keep him in the G League for the remainder of the 2018-19 campaign. It's been a long road back for the rookie, who suffered a jones fracture in his left foot in August and dealt with an allergic reaction in September, the latter of which caused him to lose a significant amount of weight. In four G League games, he's averaged 5.0 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 19.8 minutes. It's not a guarantee he'll make his debut Tuesday, but what we know for sure is that the Sixers have changed their tune on Smith potentially playing for the parent club this season.
