49ers' Reggie Bush: Could get the start in St. Louis

With Carlos Hyde (foot) ruled out, Bush is the favorite to start at running back in Sunday's game against the Rams, Cam Inman of the 49ers' official site reports.

It will be interesting to see how the 49ers handle this situation, as Bush has strictly been used as a passing-down back since 2013. Mike Davis and Jarryd Hayne also figure to get some touches, and the matchup is highly discouraging. Looking beyond Week 8, it's quite possible Carlos Hyde (ankle) will miss extended time or even be shut down for the season, so Bush's increased role may actually stick. Of course, there still isn't much upside to be had, with the workload likely getting divided in a hopeless San Francisco offense.
