Garrett is on an excused absence from training camp to be with a gravely ill member of his family, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.
Garrett missed a fourth consecutive practice Thursday, but the star edge rusher is expected back for Friday's second day of joint practice against the Eagles. He is not expected to play when the two teams meet Sunday.
