The Chargers selected King in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, 151st overall.
King is one of the rare examples where he could have gone much higher in the draft had he declared after his stellar junior season in 2015. He put together another strong campaign in 2016, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors for the second year in a row, but the depth at defensive back in this draft caused him to slide to Day 3. King also had a shaky showing at Senior Bowl practices, leaving some scouts wondering whether he'll be able to stick at corner or have to move to safety. Even with a lack of ideal size, King has tremendous instincts and he tracks the ball well. He won't be a Day 1 starter, but King should outperform his draft slot as a fifth-rounder.
