Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy suggested West, Kareem Hunt and C.J. Spiller will all have roles in Thursday's regular-season opener against New England, ESPN.com's Adam Teicher reports. "These guys are all prepared," Nagy said. "They're all prepared to play. They all know they're a big part of this game plan."

Head coach Andy Reid has made it clear Hunt will get the start and lead the backfield, but that doesn't necessarily mean the rookie will handle a typical starter's workload. Considering Spiller was released and then re-signed over the weekend, West should be locked in as the No. 2 back, with his role potentially including a good chunk of the passing-down snaps. Facing a formidable opponent on the road, the Chiefs may eventually be forced into a pass-heavy approach that works in West's favor.
