The Lions waived Ballentine (hamstring) on Friday.
Detroit activated Ballentine from injured reserve one day earlier, but the club deemed the reserve defensive back expendable when a spot on the 53-man roster was needed for quarterback Tim Boyle (thumb), who was activated from IR in anticipation of starting Sunday's game against the Browns. Before going on IR earlier this season, Ballentine appeared in three games and played exclusively on special teams as a kick returner and member of Detroit's coverage units.
